Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

  • What were your goals last week and did you accomplish them?
  • Describe what you worked on.
  • Set goals for next week.
  • Did you learn something during this week?

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

  • Writing on a novel
  • Characterization
  • World Building
  • Relevant research

Last Week's Goals

I am making progress on my outline. I've concentrated on the first section of the novel up to the inciting incident. I still need to detail those scenes. Now that I have removed the extra PoV characters this should go easier.

My goals for next week:

  • Organize scenes
  • Improve scene details

I want to finish detailing the scenes up to the inciting incident at least. After that I would like to write some rough drafts for those scenes.

What did I learn this week?

Not much this week. I've been too busy to really think much this week.

Last Week's Goals:

DREAMER'S ROSE: Work on chapter exchange revisions as they come.
Yes.

THE SHAMAN'S CURSE: Let it rest for a while longer.
Easy goal.

THE IGNORED PROPHECY: Continue revisions.
Nope, haven't touched it.

BLOOD WILL TELL: Send two new queries out.
Yes.

MAGE STORM: Continue the second draft. Get to chapter 18.
Yes. In fact, I got all the way through to the end of the first pass.

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.
Yes.

Next Week's Goals:

DREAMER'S ROSE:
Work on chapter exchange revisions as they come. Continue to think about how I would change this to YA, if that's what I decide to do with it.

THE SHAMAN'S CURSE:
Let it rest for a while longer. When I've finished the revisions on its sequel, I'll take another look at it.

THE IGNORED PROPHECY:
Restart revisions.

BLOOD WILL TELL:
Send two new queries out.

MAGE STORM:
Start the second pass through of the second draft. (There are different things I'll be looking for in the second pass.) Get to Chapter 7 (one chapter a day).

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.

Short stories - Finished Deconstruction; final edits on Demons and sent it out; working on Animorphis; letting another roll around in my head for a bit.

Novels - GHOST AND THE NETHER - Sent my proposal package to the workshop I'm going to in October (Dean Smith's). Otherwise, no work on any new novels. Mulling my alt-history novel still, reading some background information to get the period right, but won't start on that until after the workshop.

PREVIOUS WEEK
"Metzgerhund Empire" (YA): My attempt to make my MC's actions and thoughts more consistent led me to the conclusion that chapter seven (the final chapter) required more than just a few minor tweaks. I am almost done!!!...but, unfortunately, I'm still not progressing at the speed I'd like. Sometimes, having a life gets in the way.

Mainstream novel: I played a particular scene in my head on the way home from work the other day, and I tweaked it later that evening. Other than that, I've not touched this story.

"Agents of the Fourth Wind" (SF): I've not done much actual work on this story since the synopsis challenge ended, but I added a few additional thoughts to my digital audio recording collection.

UPCOMING WEEK
"Metzgerhund Empire" (YA): Complete the last few scenes of the last chapter, and rewrite the agent query letter.

Mainstream novel: Considering my upcoming workload (both in and away from my writing studio), any work I perform on this story will be a bonus.

"Agents of the Fourth Wind" (SF): Considering my upcoming workload (both in and away from my writing studio), any work I perform on this story will be a bonus. Echo.

BLOGGATHAH
Two new entries:
* Ante Meridian
* Naming Unconvention

NOTES
During this time, I am also working on three SF short stories: one is an overhaul from a story I mistakenly left of my shelf for way too long, the second is brand new, and the third is a sequel-of-sorts of a story I ditched a year ago because I no longer liked it.

Finished up my WotF story, so I can do more novel work.

Rewrote the synopsis and did more character studies this week. Nearly time to start in on the novel. I planned to have the re-draft done by the end of September. Won't happen.
