Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

  • What were your goals last week and did you accomplish them?
  • Describe what you worked on.
  • Set goals for next week.
  • Did you learn something during this week?

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

  • Writing on a novel
  • Characterization
  • World Building
  • Relevant research

Last Week's Goals

I actually got some writing done this last week. I wrote 2,200 words this week. What I'm doing now is writing during my lunch hour. I can only get about 500 written during that time but it's better than nothing. At night, I fine tune the outline for the next few scenes so I have some details to write about during lunch. This week that worked well.

My goals for next week:

  • Improve scene details
  • Write detailed scenes

I will continue focusing on detailing scenes at night and writing them during lunch.

What did I learn this week?

This week I realized that for now I cannot write new material at night. Whenever I've tried I don't get far or fall asleep at the computer. So, writing new material during lunch is the best option.

Last Week's Goals:

DREAMER'S ROSE: Work on chapter exchange revisions as they come.
Yes.

THE SHAMAN'S CURSE: Let it rest for a while longer.
Easy goal.

THE IGNORED PROPHECY: Restart revisions.
Nope. I did have an idea, but I haven't done any actual work on it.

BLOOD WILL TELL: Send two new queries out.
Uh. No, I got busy with something else and forgot.

MAGE STORM: Start the second pass through of the second draft. Get to Chapter 7 (one chapter a day).
I'm working on it, but I only got to Chapter 4.

OTHER: Update my blog twice a week.
Yes.

Next Week's Goals:

DREAMER'S ROSE:
Work on chapter exchange revisions as they come. Continue to think about how I would change this to YA, if that's what I decide to do with it.

THE SHAMAN'S CURSE:
Let it rest for a while longer. When I've finished the revisions on its sequel, I'll take another look at it.

THE IGNORED PROPHECY:
Realistically, I probably won't get back to this one until I finish the second draft of MAGE STORM. MAGE STORM and DREAMER'S ROSE, along with crits, seem to be about all I can keep up with.

BLOOD WILL TELL:
Send two new queries out.

MAGE STORM:
Continue the second draft. Get to Chapter 11 (one chapter a day).

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.

PREVIOUS WEEK
"Metzgerhund Empire" (YA): I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but I like the work I did get done.

Mainstream novel: I spent time condensing two similar scenes into one.

"Agents of the Fourth Wind" (SF): I came up with a new idea for a problem chapter.

UPCOMING WEEK
"Metzgerhund Empire" (YA): Complete the last few scenes of the last chapter, and rewrite the agent query letter.

Mainstream novel: Considering my upcoming workload (both in and away from my writing studio), any work I perform on this story will be a bonus.

"Agents of the Fourth Wind" (SF): Considering my upcoming workload (both in and away from my writing studio), any work I perform on this story will be a bonus. Echo.

BLOGGATHAH
One new entry:
* Dream Recorder

NOTES
During this time, I am also working on four SF short stories: one is an overhaul from a story I mistakenly left of my shelf for way too long, the second is brand new, the third is a sequel-of-sorts of a story I ditched a year ago because I no longer liked it, and the fourth is---and I never thought I'd see myself type these words---a flash fiction story.
