Last Week's Goals
I continued brainstorming the new novel idea. This week I took my notes and started putting together a synopsis of the events that will take place. Much of what I've gathered so far takes place before the book starts, but I wanted to detail these events should I need to flashback (yuck) or bring out information that has happened before.
My goals for next week:
Brainstorm New Book Idea(s)
I will continue brainstorming some more and adding to the synopsis I have going so far. I have several plots that I need to detail still. Once all of this is done I will need to go through it and determine whether this story is a single book or a series.
What did I learn this week?
Too many things to mention, having attended the Write That Novel last weekend. Still going through all of that. I had a great time meeting other writers and learning some new things.
THE NULL PROPHET: Let it rest, and continue with exchange. Yes. Easy goal
MINDWALKER: 5,000 words Sort of. I wrote 5,274 words, but only because I'm counting an extended Friday-Saturday week. It hit me pretty quickly this week that setting goals Friday-Thursday is not going to work for me, mainly because that puts my most productive days first. So I'm switching over to Sunday-Saturday.
I got pretty distracted this week. Superficially, because I discovered a new urban fantasy series and spent the week reading, but I think the root cause is because I'm not excited enough about my story I had a bit of a crisis about which character I was really telling the story about. Now that I've solved that, hopefully the excitement will come back. In the meantime, I'm going to force myself forward anyway.
Next Week:
THE NULL PROPHET: Let it rest, and continue with exchange.
MINDWALKER: I was trying to ease myself in, but I think it backfired. So, I'm jumping back up to my usual drafting goal: 1,000 words/day, 10,000 words for the week.
But not much on New Mage. I'm either at a spot I don't like, I diverted from my vision of the story, or I would whether work on the Bright Lights. As I said last time, my MC is feeling very unfriendly toward her friends and doesn't know why. She will realize why after meeting with what I'm calling the cult leader. But I'm trying to decide something. She goes to the bad guy's lair without realizing what it is, so she can transport herself there, for the ending fight, later. But how long between the time she goes and the time she transport herself. Right now it's like a day or three. The end of one chapter and soon after the beginning of the next one. But I would like one whole chapter between the two events, at least. I guess I can go back and add something. Just have to decide when.
"Storm Born" is coming along okay. It is nearing its conclusion also. After my MC fights the werewolf- I wonder if my readers will feel cheated since he wins kinda easy- and before he recovers, he figures out where the bad guy is calling the demi-god back to our universe. And its now..so he has to head off to stop the guy on his own. Of course I have tried to set up something to show his ex-fiance and friend know where he is headed so they are right behind him. Well, sort of right behind him. They don't get there too soon.
Oops had to come back to say:
And I'm about half way through the revision of Bright Lights. Now up to eleven chapters instead of nine. But I seem to feel an desire-maybe urgency- to get it done. Many times I feel that way when I am almost finished with a story. But as I said I'm maybe half way. So I spend more time on it than on New Mage or other writing. I'm doing "Storm Born" at work on my laptop so that feeling doesn't interfere with that WIP.
But I have her through with her first meeting with the three fates, an embarrassing encounter where she had-she had no say in the matter- to stand through a clean up by the Queen's hand maidens--she got very dirty in the fates cave--then had to sit nude while the Queen's hair dresser did her hair. Her clothes were being washed. Very soon now she will be given a house servant for her two bedroom apartment. Its a reward for her and a punishment for him. Reward???
