Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

  • What were your goals last week and did you accomplish them?
  • Describe what you worked on.
  • Set goals for next week.
  • Did you learn something during this week?

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

  • Writing on a novel
  • Characterization
  • World Building
  • Relevant research

Last Week's Goals

I did OK for this week. Mostly I did some world building for my work in progress. This is more difficult because I don't do it as much. However, I did come up with some nice stuff for this world, which I hope will make it more interesting.

My goals for next week:

  • Unsure

Not sure what I will work on for next week. I may need to combine more world building with re-reading the book. I know I need to go through it again and fine tune all of the plots and subplots I have going to make sure everything flows logically to their conclusions.

What did I learn this week?

Not much this week.

Last Week's Goals:

DREAMER'S ROSE: Nothing for this month.
Easy goal.

MAGE STORM: Work on the query some more.
Yes.

SEVEN STARS: Keep working on the second draft. First pass through Chapter 8.
Yes.

BLOOD WILL TELL: Start a chapter exchange on the revisions.
Yes.

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.
Yes.

Looks like it was a pretty good week.

Next Week's Goals:

On the Shelf:
THE SHAMAN'S CURSE
THE IGNORED PROPHECY

Keep jotting down ideas of how these two might be changed.

DREAMER'S ROSE:
Nothing for this month.

MAGE STORM:
Nothing this week unless I get some comments on the new query letter.

SEVEN STARS:
Keep working on the second draft. I need to work on a couple of other things, too, so the goal will be four chapters this week. That'll be through Chapter 12.

BLOOD WILL TELL:
Continue the chapter exchange(s)

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.
Work on revisions to another short story.
Spend some time preparing for Agent's Day next Saturday.

Last Week:

THE NULL PROPHET: Let it rest. Finish at least one critique for each exchange.
Yes

MINDWALKER: 1,000 words/day, 10,000 for the week.
Almost. I took Friday off because of killer allergies, and ended up with 8,450 words overall. I'm beginning to realize that the 10,000 words probably isn't going to happen, even though I hit it almost every week on my last book. Last time, I wasn't working on anything else.

Next Week:

THE NULL PROPHET: Let it rest. Finish at least one critique for each exchange, and read feedback as I get it.

MINDWALKER: 1,000 words/day, 8,000 for the week.

A bit late here but it looks like I'm not the only one.

Anyway:

Did no work on New Mage. Been too busy on the revision and playing around. It's close to the end but I thought of two things that I can put in the second to the last chapter, if I can get to it.

Did a bunch of work on the revision of Bright Lights. My MC is now on the run from a full Fey Lord while at the same time rescuing children he has kidnapped. Of course there will be a fight between the two and a double of course she is way out classed. But I think..hope... that this section will go a lot faster. I have already redone it once, and that was after NaNo so I wasn't in a hurry. We shall see.

Did some work on "Storm Born". I started the conclusion and have been trying to make it very hard on my MC. Currently he is trapped under a magic shield. He was trying to crawl under it, where a lightning strike destroyed some stadium seats, when something got caught, not sure what. And he just discovered a fire started by the lightning is growing his way. He assumed the rain would put it out but somehow it kept on burning. I will probably try to put in some emotional angst of some type. Like he almost gives up, probably when the zombies attack. The last, um maybe not, defense of the wizard. He's hurt his Achilles tendon and banged the knee on the other side, his back is bleeding from werewolf slashes. He may feel like giving up about then, especially if there is one more thing to get around. I know how it ends, I've known for six months or maybe longer.

My vacation is coming up in June, last week of...which means I have to work on my birthday this year. About the fourth time I have had to. Two things I want for my birthday...a pro sell and a color Nook. Probably won't get either, my wife thinks readers are a waste off money. but I will be able to buy the Nook. The other though...well some of you have read my stories.

Actually, I mentioned my vacation because I will be done with my novels by then. I guess it's not too bad, I started two during my vacation last year. The third I wrote in Nov. So even though I'm six months late with two of them, three in a year isn't bad. And one will be done with it's first revision.

And I forgot to mention that I usually forget about mentioning my goals for the next week. This time it is to finish "Storm Born", to work on New Mage and to finish the revision of Bright Lights. I have no set goal for word count, I usually forget to keep track of that.

Oh yes also: I know what the second and third books in the Mew Mage series will be about. The second book is an idea I got from "Playing Dead" by John Levitt. The third one will be her and her brother going of the person who raped and killed their sister.

Of course when I get done with the revision, I won't have time to relax; it will be time to start the second one, with all of the good advice I have gotten on the first three chapters..good even though I wanted to argue-discuss a couple of points.
