Welcome to this week's Novel Support Group (NSG). Anyone can join. If you're new, tell us a bit about who you are and what project you are working on. Feel free to update the NSG Work in Progress thread with your current projects. Although we can report on any number of things, here is a list of suggestions (suggestions welcomed).

  • What were your goals last week and did you accomplish them?
  • Describe what you worked on.
  • Set goals for next week.
  • Did you learn something during this week?

Here is a list of things that you can do each week as we work on our novels (suggestions welcomed).

  • Writing on a novel
  • Characterization
  • World Building
  • Relevant research

Last Week's Goals

I did a little last week on the new story idea, but not much. I spent much of the week setting up a temporary office in the basement. Our basement is unfinished, but we've been preparing to finish it. I now have one room cleared out of ... stuff ... so I set up a temporary office with our kids old computer. It's sufficient for writing and some minor tasks. By doing this I hope to have fewer excuses (not no excuses :-) ) to prevent writing opportunity. Now that I have a place away from the daily distractions, I hope to get more done ... maybe. [Smile]

My goals for next week:

  • Something writing related

I need to finish setting up the computer with necessary software. Thankfully I have an external storage system networked to all of the computers so that will speed up the process of getting my writing stuff onto this "new" computer.

My father is coming into town for a visit. He has never met the family so we're looking forward to this. After nearly 18 years of marriage we've finally gotten all of the finances, health issues, timing, etc. worked out so he could fly out from the mid-west. My wife is excited and nervous at the same time. So, I may not get much done next week after all, but we'll see.

What I need to learn this week

Soon I hope to get back to the research on setting that I've had to put aside for the last few weeks. Hopefully very soon. [Smile]

Last Week's Goals:

MAGIC'S FOOL: Keep thinking about what changes I need to make to improve this story.
Still thinking. [Smile]

FIRE AND EARTH (formerly known as SEVEN STARS): Send out three more queries out this week.
Nope. I decided a week with a holiday in the middle of it was not a good bet. So, I made a book trailer instead. [Smile]

BLOOD WILL TELL: The hard part (for me)--marketing.
Yes. I made a book trailer, even though it wasn't for BLOOD WILL TELL. [Big Grin]

BLOOD IS THICKER: Let it rest.
Easy one. [Smile]

MAGIC'S APPRENTICE: Nothing for this week.
Another easy one. [Smile]

THE BARD'S GIFT: Write through Chapter 9.
Yes! I've even started chapter 10 (barely). [Big Grin]

OTHER:
Update my blog twice a week.
Yes. [Smile]

Just think of all the "grist for the mill" you are going to be able to collect from this particular "adventure," William. Pay attention as much as you can while it's happening, and then write later.

@Kathleen

I'm looking forward to it also because he's bringing a bunch of family history along with him; things that I don't know about and his mom never wanted to talk about while she was alive. Even without the "grist" potential, I may have some story potential. Just not so sure about the possible Closet Skeletons. [Smile]

Ooh! The family history makes it even more exciting. (By "grist for the mill" I mean things that could lead to story ideas, by the way.)
