hello. for my english class, i have been assigned to read sylvia plaths-The Bell Jar, and then write a literary criticism paper on it. i was just wondering, as i have never read the book before, what approach would be the best to take when reading, things to look for. thanks.

Sylvia Plath? She wrote some of the most disturbingly powerful poetry I've ever read. Look, Plath is about as subtle as a brick. After you read The Bell Jar I really doubt you will be at a loss for something to latch onto and write. If you really don't know what to write, you're in the wrong class.

Something you would find helpful before reading - read a bio of Plath's tragic life. I don't mean it has to be a book - just something so you understand the basics of her life and where she was coming from in her writing.

Hope that helps.
