I'm a big fan of most of his books, but I think that "Abarat" represents some of the best young adult fiction today.

I used to love Barker. The sheer breadth of imagination involved in his work was breath-taking. Weaveworld, Imajica, The Great and Secret Show, all just amazing. Scenes that still stand out in my mind a decade later. The blend of horror and fantasy he achieves is still something I aspire to as a writer.
I read Abarat a few years back and loved that too. Just picked up Cabal the other day, which I know NOTHING about, but it was only $4, so who cares. Looking forward to sinking my teeth into that.
