I was surfing You Tube and came across an interesting discussion about Stoic being killed off in the 2nd HTTYD movie. I saw the movie and thought it every bit as good as the first one. Not only was the story well told and acted, but the CG was awesome. You'd swear it was real instead of animated.

I don't know why, but when Stoic was killed, I didn't think they'd let him die. That was a shock. But the thing that got me was how upset one of the You Tube posters was about Toothless being the one that did the deed. But I got to thinking about that. Toothless didn't actually kill Stoic. The villain (who's name escapes me at the moment) was the actual murderer through his control of the alpha dragon who, in turn, controlled Toothless. Toothless had no choice but to obey.

For those of you who have seen the movie; what is your take on this? Personally, I don't think it hurt the story and maybe even added more to it. Evidently there's one more movie in this trilogy, and I'm very eager to see how it all comes out.

I can't vouch for the movie itself...but it does work my nerves when I invest emotional sympathy in a character only for the creator(s) to kill the character off.

I remember a story (I think it was by L. Ron Hubbard, may have just seen it summarized somewhere) where it was said that the most hated being in a story had to be the writer, for the godlike powers he exercises over his characters and the way he abuses it...
