We've sure had our share of rain lately, but this past Saturday topped them all:

Steve (my husband) and I were home not doing much when it seemed terribly dark outside for late afternoon. I looked out our front room picture window to the south to see black clouds to the right. I looked west. OMG! It was black as night and heading our way. It looked so bad I started searching for funnel clouds.

Steve & I rushed out to get the horses in the barn before it hit. We have sliding doors on the stalls that let the horses out in our arena. I opened Terra's door, and she just stared at me from outside, not the least bit interested in coming in. Dove kept badgering her, which didn't help either (He's the alpha horse in our herd of two.). Fine! I'd let Dove in first, and switched to his stall to open his door. Nope, he wasn't interested in his door but came in Terra's. Terra didn't like this in the least, and I ended up putting Dove in his own stall when Terra came in hers. Mission accomplished. I closed Terra's sliding door and left Dove's open. He has heaves, and we try to let him have choice to whether he want's in or out.

The black wall of clouds had drawn much closer through all this, and the wind picked up. Steve and I left the barn. I stopped with my heart in my throat. I could see what looked like a black gauzy veil coming in before the clouds. Rain. Lots of it. Like I've never seen before in my life. At least not around here. It couldn't have been more than a half mile away and coming in fast. Temps were dropping too... like a rock. It felt like coming inside on a hot sweltering day to shiver in the air conditioning.

We returned to the house. There was no thunder, no lighting. Just a deluge of rain that kept coming down and down and down. A river ran down our windows. Water overflowed the normal rain puddles in minutes. The back of our arena always floods after a heavy rain. This time the whole thing was covered with water. I'm not positive, but Steve and I agree it lasted a good hour if not longer before it became a steady rain that went on for several hours. In time it became a light rain, and was still raining when I went to bed around 11:30 pm.

All that evening there were warnings for the people of Huntington, IN to be ready to evacuate due to flash floods. The local news said we got 2 inches of rain in that deluge and another inch after that. Some places in Huntington County got 3 to 4 inches by Sunday morning. The fields around here looked like marshland with huge, shallow lakes. Thankfully, Our house and barn stayed relatively dry.

Then we had off and on normal rain showers all day Sunday. I have to say that bright blue sky and sunshine looked pretty good when I got up this morning... and most of the flooding has receded too.

So glad you and your horses are okay.

My daughters would love to be your best friends. they'd be even happy to travel the 3+ hours to get there.

You'll need to link us pictures of your horses one day, Crystal.

Me too glad everything is okay. In my case it would be my wife who would visit but it's a lot more than three hour drive. (Why does a certain sitcom song come to mind after I wrote that)

We have had some heavy downpours but not for a hour. Half an hour at the most.
