Arthur Miller, perhaps the greatest American playwright of last century, passed away at 89. His most notable works were "The Crucible," a play about the Salem witch trials which satirized the excess of McCarthyism, and "Death of a Salesman," an American tragedy that deals with loss of hope in America. He was also known for his brief marriage to Marilyn Monroe in the 60s. He never retired, continuing to write plays up until his death.

Farewell, Arthur.

Death of a Salesman was pretty much ruined for me by English classes (and a really sucky production of it in college), but I saw the premiere of his second-to-last-play, Ressurection Blues in 2002 and it was incredible. I haven't seen his last play, but I know he still had what it takes at age 86.

I hate to state the obvious, but Arthur Miller was a genius. Godspeed Sir Arthur.

There is a misty plot afoot so subtle we should be criminal to cling to old respects and ancient friendships. - Reverend Hale to Francis Nurse

This one stays with me, always.

A great play, The Crucible, by a great man.

I didn't know he was still alive, either, Verily.

This has become something of a mantra for salesmen.
