American Cancer Deaths Fall

quote:
The war on cancer may have reached a dramatic turning point: For the first time in more than 70 years, annual cancer deaths in the United States have fallen.
Let's hope the number continues to fall.

Really? No one?

I'd have thought this news would be celebrated here.

[Smile] That's good news. There's still much more work to be done, but it's hopeful.

I think it's the thread title, I almost didn't click it.

Well that's why I went back and added cancer in it.

Adam, you already showed me this, but I still think it's amazing. It gives me hope.

It's a total decrease of only 369, and reflects an increase in cancer deaths for women.

There's no reason to throw a party, yet.

Yes, it's somewhat encouraging and hopeful, but we've got a long way to go.

Yeah, but a decrease at ALL is still a good cause for celebration. Our population rises, and the amount of cancer deaths always rises to equal out the amount of deaths per 10,000 people. Finally, the deaths as a percentage of the people, has fallen. Even if the number had stayed the same it would have been at least a minor victory.

This is also why I tagged the thread "The Long War." There certainly is a long way to go. But there's hope, and here's a tangible sign that a battle has been won, though the war is not over.
