Lisa: You don't like Life of Brian? Or simply not as much as Holy Grail?
Holy Grail is a completely different type of Funny from Life of Brian. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE both movies, but something about Brian... the more you watch it the funnier it is. You catch the subtle things you missed before.
With Holy Grail pretty much the only thing you catch on repeated viewings is the children beating rugs with cats.
Then again, maybe I've watched HG too many times and the funny's gone out of it.

I can't believe only one person so far has mentioned Serenity, though. By the way, thanks Hatrack for introducing me to Firefly. It's the only show I've ever watched that I really connected with. Serenity was a good movie. I didn't include it in my list though because while it gave us closer on the Firefly 'verse, I don't think it was as good as most of the individual episodes in the series.
Joss is great in characterization. That's why we watch his stuff. He just doesn't have time to do that in a movie like he does in TV. And that's where Serenity suffered.

I don't know what is so good about The Philadelphia Story, but it made my favorite list, also. I have the hots for Katharine Hepburn in a bad way, but of all of her movies, this is the one that sticks with me the most.

Honestly I've seen all three* of the Python movies often enough to have sucked The Funny out of them, but Life of Brian was always my favorite of them as well.
*I don't count the big screen versions of their TV sketch comedy as movies, really.

Unfortunately SHAWSHANK is ruined for me (too many viewings. Same for PRINCESS BRIDE. Perhaps after a 20 year break, I'll watch them again.
