I love when Harry Met Sally but never considered it a chick flick because I think it fairly represented the guy's point of view about relationships.

"Ah ha! So you are saying that a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive?"

"No, you pretty much want to nail them too." [Big Grin]

And I'm adding a couple Jane Austens that came up in the favorite movie thread.

So nobody else thought that Love Actually was exceptionally good? I thought that it was much better than most.

Oh, I'll nominate Bridget Jones' Diary if it hasn't already been mentioned.

Heh. That's the best sequence of the movie, Trevor.

"And this man was a..."
"A bastard. A Eurotrash in Armani kind of guy."
"Did he have a black suit, and a yellow shirt?"
"You know him?! Of course you know him. All you bastards know each other."

Hey Sax, I think you must have clicked through to another list, b/c those aren't on the chick list.
The titles I listed are (in the order I listed them) numbers 5, 57, 23, 73, 63, 85, 27, 29, 97, 45, and 34 in the list entitled "100 Memorable and Great 'Chick' Flicks (part 1, chronological)," which is what I got when I clicked on your link. The URL was http://www.filmsite.org/chickflicks.html.

Annie, is this the one you were thinking about ?
An Affair to Remember

If so, you'll have to cancel my nomination, as I saw a remake of it: Love Affair (1994)

Actually, the REAL original is also called Love Affair.

I know it had the dancing, but for some reason I really considered it a chick flick.

It just seems like they threw Tyra Banks in there to make the men go see it, and all they accomplished was turning all the women off.

OK, I'm going to mention four movies that I really don't care for, but they definitely belong in the "chick flick" category:

Titanic (ok movie, but I think that plank had enough room for the both of them; don't women retain heat better than men?)

Grease (I secretly love this movie. Shhhh....)

Ghost (Patrick's best work since Road House.)

Beaches (arg... hated it)

Wikipedia here we come!

Well, not sure the wikipedia entry beren linked to bears that out, but what the hey. In any case, by the definition of 'a movie lots of women would want to see', I think it's not. [Smile]

By my definition, a movie that's all about girly crap, romance, and discovering who you are, blah blah blah, then it is.

This movie isn't going to win best chick flick, but I hold that it is one, and I liked it. : )

Of course, my favorite movie is Wayne's World, so...

(So you have seen "Coyote Ugly", Beren?)

(edit number 2: I find it deliciously funny that Josh seconded my Coyote Ugly nomination. [Evil] )

I wonder how we could make a list of chick flicks that are palatable to us guys. I can't stomach most of them, but I actually enjoy some of them when bev convinces me to watch them.

For example, Return to Me was a very good movie, and was a chick flick.

Well, Coyote Ugly certainly doesn't "focus on drama and character interaction."

However, it does contain a few elements of chickflickness:

1. At one point someone sang "I Will Survive."

2. It has chicks in it.

3. It is about a chick overcoming some obstacle.

4. Did I mention it has chicks in it?

Come on Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Powers Booth, Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson . Women who don't take any crap, mostly proving that fact by killing tons of Russians. A movie both girls and guys can love.
