I remember when KCTS (PBS station) would play Red Green Marathons. Maybe they still do, I don't have time for TV anymore.

I agree with BtL. Confusing Stan Rogers (of "Barrett's Privateers" fame) and Gordon Lightfoot (most famous for "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald") is a captial crime in all provinces and territories. And here's me leaving Stan Rogers off because I thought no one would know him.

And I believe you about the Rainbow Butt Monkeys. They (and Jim Carrey) are my town's claim to fame.

Loreena McKennitt is from Canada. Stratford, ON. She performs occasionally at the Stratford Festival, one of the largest Shakepearean theatre-fests going. A lot of her songs were written for performances there. "Prospero's Speech" being a personal favourite.

EDIT: I knew I could count on Hatrack. You guys are awesome.

Stan Rogers?

quote:
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.

Best song ever. [Smile]

Have heard of the following, but don't know much about them:
  • Mr Dressup
  • The Guess Who
  • Guy Gavriel Kay
  • Gordon Lightfoot
Know what these are but have never seen/eaten/visited them:
  • Inukshuk - I have a little one made of glass, but I've never seen a real one.
  • Poutine - Juliette maintains that this is gross, but I think it sounds OK.
  • West Edmonton Mall - Saw a documentary about malls.
  • Nunavut - Juliette's aunt used to live in Iqaluit.
First experience these in the US:
  • Avril Lavingne
  • Barenaked Ladies
  • Jim Carrey
  • Sarah McLaughlan
  • Nickleback
  • Bryan Adams
  • (pre-sweetened) Iced Tea
  • Lacrosse
  • Zambonis
  • Twoonie - only because Juliette gave me one after coming back from visiting her family in St. Thomas, ON
First experienced these in Canada:
  • Tim Horton's - The sheer volume of Tim Horton's stores boggles my mind. I swear there is a higher density of Tim's in the Elgin/Middlesex county region of Ontario than there is of Starbucks in the LA metro.
  • Kraft Dinner - The phrase, not the actual food. I've been eating Kraft Macaroni and Cheese since I was little. It is now my birthday meal of choice.
First experienced these in England:
  • Smarties (the chocolate kind)
Edit: Oh yeah, and I'm from Northern California.
Edit2: for quidscribis' additions
