Who knew her life was built on such a flimsy foundation?

Not to mention all the underlying technology, too. There are all kinds of inconsistencies and gaping holes. They can take someone apart particle by particle, turn them into energy and back, and then put them back together, but they can't take energy and turn it into real food? With beaming technology, you could easily make copies of someone. If someone gets a rare alien virus, you just beam them somewhere and filter out the virus. If invaders board the ship, just beam them into the pattern buffer and never rematerialize them. Most of the transporter accidents were ludicrously illogical, too.

Actually, they do take energy and turn it into real food. That's what the replicators do.

If those transporter accidents can happen accidentally, they should be able to do it on purpose. That technology would quickly make the federation a place that us 20th century types could no longer relate to.

*scared* You sound like you're getting offended Porter. Sorry if that's the case, I thought I had inserted enough silly and ditzy for you to know that I'm just giving you a hard time. (And if that's annoying, sorry again. [Smile] )

I thought that people were always complaining about replicator food, saying that it's all synthetic protein and stuff like that and that it doesn't taste as good as real food. I always got the impression that it was high-tech tofu.

Narnia, you haven't offended me in the slightest.

It's all been in fun and good nature, I promise you.

I'm trying to imagine a situation where you could ever offend me. It's not coming.

It's just Porter's Vulcan-style joke delivery. He sounds all serious and hyper-literal, but he's really not. Just imagine all his posts read in Leonard Nimoy's voice.

That's awesome. Porter, you should be Leonard Nimoy in the character thread over on GC. And you should kick Kathleen Kelly's behind. [Big Grin]
