TRUE STORY:
Nine years ago I was shopping in a store that specialised in Scandanavian Imports, and I overheard a converstation another customer was having with the owner;
C: I'm planning a trip to Denmark and Sweden in a few months and I was wondering if you would happen to have a Danish or Swedish Translation of the King James Bible? If you have them I would like some to pass out to people when I am there.
O: Sorry, we know of none available, though we can check.
C: Oh, I suppose that shouldn't be surprising because this part of the Country, (New England, to be more precise, Portland, Maine) is kind of like communist Russia.
--Meanwhile I'm absolutely amazed at the absolutely surreal conversation that I've just heard, Never mind the fact that Scandinavia is generally one of the least religious parts of Europe, and they've all had their own directtranslations of the bible dating back to at least the reformation. --Why would they want a bible translated from Greek to English to Danish/Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish???
FWIW, I'm not particularly religious, but my favorite version is the Jerusalem Bible. It's very clear, very deep, and JRR Tolkien was one of the editors/translators.

Not exactly. The New Testament is specific. The "misread" word is from the quote from Isaiah that Matthew uses as a supporting text. That sort of thing (and that specific thing) would be covered in the notes in any of the study Bibles I recommended, btw.
