Me too Anne Kate. How much money do you think it would take for us to found a girls school in some developing country. Rich and I would be willing to teach at it for a very minimal fee.

Rabbit, I don't know what it would cost. Do you think we could work a PEF type deal where it sort of snowballed and paid for itself over time? Whatever we do has to snowball somehow, doesn't it? In order to build up and keep on going? That's what I interpret the mustard seed to mean. Not just size increase, but regenerative capacity, something that reproduces itself. That's how I'm thinking it has to work.
That is my life's work. Iraq is just training for that. I'm not planning to go myself to teach, though, when the time comes. When I get home from Iraq I'm going to stay put for a while. I am going to do organization and planning and logistics back home for this project.
What would you say the first step is? Writing up a "business plan", a model on which to base the creation of new schools?

Teaching has in and of itself a snowball effect. You teach children, and they grow up to teach children. If you do it well, it grows and grows.
My knack (if I have one) is in being able see the connections that others miss and in being able to teach them to others. I wish my mission in life were to change the world, but I am coming more and more to accept that my mission is only to change some small part of it. If I do it well, perhaps God can work my bit into his plan to change the worldl.
What is the status on you and Iraq Anne Kate? Any progress?

I have taken this contract job in San Francisco first, and the schedule has slipped on that some. I'm supposed to go Jan. 5th, 2004 to start it up now. In the meantime I'm doing the programming and engineering stuff here.
I got a bite for a job as a design team leader with the local power company here, and I'm trying to decide whether I should look into it at all. I'm about to decide not to. I want to go to Iraq. Many of the contractors have pulled out, though, or are doing so now, until such time as the situation over there gets safer. So I don't know what the prospects will be like short term. I may have to take another contract gig here while waiting for a slot to go.
That's the way things go. Everything always takes longer than you expect. But in no way have I dropped my plans to go. There will be lots of work to be done over there for a long time to come, I am sure.

Rabbit, I do have to save the whole world. My little piece won't matter if the whole thing sinks. It's way beyond me, of course, and I'll probably fail miserably, which is why I really hope God has a backup plan. Remember how before the ring came to Frodo it landed with Gollum?

I just finished making the donation to first book. Here is the e-mail reciept I recieved.

Rabbit, I hope you can use the tax deduction. IMHO, this is small compensation for doing all the coordination on this effort. If you can't use it this year, you might be able to carry it over to a future year. I'm not sure how the tax laws work in this regard.
Anyway, the neat thing is that this worked. I'm very impressed!

Hey! Bob! Over here! Yeah, you do remember I do taxes, right?
Charitable contributions go on a Schedule A, and you can only deduct up to 50% of your Adjusted Gross Income. Any amount that is above that, you can certainly carry over to next year.
Of course, very few people actually donate this much of their money.
