We want to have a website to promote our new business, with before and after photos of the contracting work we've done and information about the company.
It's just going to be a simple site, maybe five pages, no shopping cart needed, we won't be selling anything directly from the website itself.
I used to know some HTML but it's been years and I don't have the time or inclination to learn it again. I want a quick, easy, inexpensive solution - probably a host company that offers customizable templates would be best. I will be stuck doing this and I don't have the technical skills to build a site from scratch and I don't have the money to pay somebody to do it for me.
We certainly won't be expecting a lot of traffic on the site at first, and it's main function is as a marketing tool for us. I need it ready to go quickly, because we're going to be doing some local marketing in the next few weeks and I want to include the web address on our literature we put out.
Any recommendations of good companies to deal with?

I use 1and1.com and am pretty satisfied. They have 24/7 tech support, among other things, which I like and are one of the bigger hosts around. Can't beat $3 a month, either.

I use hostdepartment.com and I'm pretty happy with them. They also have 24/7 support, and they have templates and wizards to create your site. (I don't use them, but they do exist.)

I use Freewebs. I just use their free hosting (freewebs.com/yourdomain), but I have a friend who uses their templates but has his own domain. I'm not sure exactly how much it costs.

How come 1and1 is that cheap? Most of the decent Web hosts people have recommended to me cost $7-9 a month if you pre-pay for a year (or sometimes 2).
I have only hear negative anecdotes (admittedly only 2 or 3) from people who use hosts that charge less than $5 a month.
But I too am in the market for Web hosting and would love to only pay $5 or 6. It'll make the $50 check I got stretch that much farther.

1and1 is one of the largest web hosts out there, and one of the most reliable cheap hosts. I suspect they've come up with some sophisticated management software that lets them keep the marginal cost of hosting lower than others.

I've using their cheapest plan for linux hosting for about six months and the three times I've called them they've been very helpful with problems that were all my fault.

Mine is in the neighborhood of $6 a month, and gives me ridiculously more memory and bandwidth than I need--but I have high hopes, which is why I use them.

I'm also with 1and1 and have had absolutely no problems. I have scads and scads of space and email addresses, apparently unlimited upload/download because I can't find anything anywhere that tells me those numbers, and up to 5 domain names included. I'm on a different plan than JT and paying 10 a month, but I consider that to be a bargain! The office is paying about triple that and I haven't been able to convince them to make the move yet.
