Huh. So a month or two ago (it's all a blur), the Chicago Sun-Times did a contest, and my daughter and I submitted a YouTube video for it.

Today, I got a message (that I assume was sent to everyone who entered a video for this thing) from a casting director at Mark Burnett. They're planning a show called Jingle, which is going to be a cross between American Idol and Whose Line Is It Anyway? And it was an invitation to audition.
quote:
It is a live show airing at the end of the summer. We are looking for teams of two to three people to write and perform product jingles. A team could be anything from singer-songwriters to a brother/sister team to a singing comedy duo or a barbershop quartet. We are looking for fun, high-energy performances mixed with a competitive spirit. We are still figuring out live audition dates and locations, but I will let you know when that is finalized. As of now, the winner of the show will receive $100,000 and a contract, but that is also not set in stone.

We are currently casting and we will having auditions in Chicago, LA, Austin, New York and Nashville this summer. The show is an American-Idol style show with judges and every week will be dedicated to a different product, where teams will be performing their jingles. From there will will go onto the interview round and then bringing everyone to LA for filming at the end of the summer. We are casting teams of two to three people.

Should I try it?

If you don't mind being presented as an idiot, a bad person, or being humiliated on TV.

Not that those things would necessarily happen. But there seems to be a trend amongst reality shows of doing the above to at least some of the people on the show.

Also if you don't mind working for people who either can't write an internally consistant email or can't count. They are casting teams of 2 - 3 people and teams could include a barbershop quartet.

Heh. I think she was just giving basic guidelines. She also misspelled "Whose Line" as "Who's Line".

I talked to my sister about this. She thinks my nephew would love to do it. He's so into commercials that he even watches them when they TiVo things. And he wants to be an actor. So we'll see what happens.

If anyone here is interested in doing it, I can give you the casting director's info.

Do you really want to be on TV? Do you really want fame? Do you want stalkers scowering the net and your personal life pulling up everything you've ever written or done?

Something tells me that a show about jingles isn't going to be popular enough to warrant stalkers.

Yes please. And could I have a side order of paparazzi to go along with that?

If they ask you for money, to pay for anything, to confirm your ID with a credit card, birth certificate, or SS# before you meet them, say no.

Google them.

Check them out.

Singer Beware.

Not really. That isn't even enough to protect yourself, really, but it is a start.
