Just me or is the Avatar a little overpowered, basically I summoned the Avatar of the Elfish God of Pain/Murder/Evil onto the field and it singlehandedly won the game and obliterated my friend's Tyranid army.

The only way that the avatar gets summoned in a head to head match is if one or both players just dick around or otherwise don't know how to play the game real well.
Effectively it's like an Age of X 'cultural victory' timer. If you're ineffectual enough to at all allow your eldar opponent the chance to build one, you should lose.

Actually, that's mostly true across the board at RTS games. If it's a one-on-one game, and one or both get to the end of their tech-tree, well then they're either not very experienced with the game or just goofing off.

Yes but there doesnt appear to be an equivalent unit though on the other team. Even with the allegory of experimentals on a supreme commander small map both sides generally should have an experimental, in DaW2, this doesnt seem to be the case.

It didn't matter. No race in the entire spectre of original DOW, even after the release of Soulstorm, gave any other army in the entire game a unit equivalent to the Guard's Baneblade, which could in nearly any situation equip the guard to walk over demigods and eldar avatars and what-have-you.
The Baneblade was similarly irrelevant to online match gameplay because if you could ever actually build one, something is extraordinarily wrong with the game you are playing.
Not that I'm saying that DoWII is fantastically balanced (it's not) but the online match play between actually competitive players is such that, well, I'm hard pressed to find any incidence in videos of that level of tech successfully ascending, and when they do it's a case of 'check out this video lol I actually made an avatar lol wtf rite?? how weirdo'
