Culture studies of the Varden? I didn't know Christopher Paolini was so pervasive that academics were getting in on it now.

Wrong fantasy world, Lyr. Vvardenfell is the island the game Morrowind takes place in, populated by the Dunmer. If I remember the Lore right, in Skyrim it's a smoking ruin.

And if that was sarcasm it whooshed over my head, since I know virtually nothing about Paolini except that the first chapter of his first book was terrible and I received it on good authority that it did not get better.

No, I don't think that's like, story relevant! Or, if it is I certainly haven't encountered it. Some random non-quest NPC I was chatting up said he fled the disaster when Red Mountain erupted, and I looked it up on a TES Wiki. So... I don't think that counts as a real spoiler alert.

It's not a spoiler. It's backstory. If you start the game as a dunmer you are even immediately referred to as a refugee of the vvardenfell eruption.

Also Sam normally I don't really care about your proper noun capitalization handicap because I assume you're always posting with your thumbs via your phone, but when you don't capitalize the first V in Vvardenfell it makes the word read really different.
