Ian Mclellan neither he nor Walken remotely dark skinned though...
Ben Kingsley, great in 12th night and Ghandi, but probly not harsh enough for Mazor
Lawrence Fishburn... A longshot?
Also wanted to submit for your opinions, Jonathan Frakes as Graff (Riker from Star Trek TNG)
Someone Unknown? It would almost HAVE to be someone we don't know already, these guys have WAY too much baggage, plus ego

Rawiri Paratene is the man I constantly think of when I think of Mazer. You may have seen him in Whale Rider or Jonny Lingo.PhotoPosts: 231 | Registered: Apr 2005

Ben Kingsley's got the range for it, certainly. Rawiri Paratene might be a good choice too.
I don't imagine that Frakes would make a good Graff, both because I don't really think he's that great of an actor and also because he's too attractive.

I also think Nathaniel Lees (another New Zealander) from the Matrix movies and The Other Side of Heaven would be good

I've been seeing him in my head as Rawiri Paratene for any other actor to look right in the part, I think. I could see ow Kingsley or Lees would work, but it would be weird for me personally.
You're right Porter--Kingsley would be absolutely perfect for Abner Doon.

Every time Bev or I see Kingsley anywhere we let out a fangirl squeal and go "Look! It's Doon!"

Guys... Kent is right. There is one person who is so perfect for Mazer that it absolutely defies description. He's the only character who was immediately cast in my head. He's not very well-known, but he's absolutely perfect.
Nathaniel Lees (Captain Mifune in The Matrix sequels and Ugluk in LOTR)
Seriously...just imagine him sitting there and suddenly beating the living daylights out of Ender. It would work perfectly!

Once you do know who's going to play who, even though the actual filming won't start until later I would immediately get some previews done. Usually the previews aren't done until after the movie, but everyone is bloodthirsty for just anything about the movie.

Truth to tell, I'm pretty ambivilant about the EG movie, and I'm no slouch when it comes to being an obsessive fanboy.

Doesn't the option like, close, in January? I get the impression that means if they don't actually have the movie like, put together, completely, cast, shots, script'n all, it doesn't get done. Are we ... <expletive deleted>ed?

Well, all I can say is the "cover art" used for Mazer in Prison on Intergallactic Medicine Show totally blew away all images in my mind I had of Mazer. Looked very different from the way I had been picturing him.
Not that that's bad --- it just surprised me.
So now I have that image stuck in my head instead.

I like the look of Rawiri Paratene. However, having just seen Beloved, I'd love to see Danny Glover as Mazer. Not because of some similarity between Paul D and Rackham, but simply because i think he could pull it off phenomenally.

There are a number of Big name actors, any one of which I would love to see in this production (not necesarily just in the Mazor position).
Harrison Ford (Worked with Wolfgang in Air-Force One) James Earl Jones Tommy Lee Jones Patrick Stewart Morgan Freeman George Clooney
Ender will be a tough one to cast.. Orlando Bloom as the older Ender ...the young Ender is tough... extremely tough

Wait! You know who would be awesome? Clint Eastwood. He's perfect! Think about it! Have you ever seen him in Bridges of Madison County? They're the same character almost. Or at least, they have the same feel of the presence they need to give off.

Oh, and Orlando Bloom is SO bleh. He'd make a good Bonzo Madrid though! Not spanish, but he could so be a stupid badass. If he was younger and had a sense of humor, Sean Penn could do Ender.
