aaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghh
my house has been infested by the largest amount of creepy crawlers I have ever witnessed in my life! (and I'm talking about roaches the size of my hand )
I suspect they are comeing from the sewer but the plumber has been avoiding me since the last time he came and did the worst job ever on the drains.
and to get anyone to spray the house could take weeks.
is there any way i can get rid of them alone??

did I mention that I loath bugs?

Check the crawlspace under the house. Do you have a landlord that does seasonal maintenance?

You simply need to introduce a colony of army ants. They'll quickly clear your apartment of all living matter... I wouldn't stay in the apartment while they were there though.

I know that Paul Harvey used to advertise this stuff, but it actually works! Try a product called Roach Proof. You can get it at most hardware stores.

The first few days, you will sweep up hundreds of bugs. After that, the remainder will stay away.

Also, check your potatoes. Roaches love potatoes and bags of dry dog food or cat food.

You may also want to check for water leaks under your dishwasher, washing machine, hot water heater, under sinks, and in your crawlspace (if possible). Roaches love to live in and breed in this moist environment.

P.S. Good luck on your "score" in the body count against your roomie.

Man, I hate bugs. When you're past Beta, and you're coming up on your deadline for Gold, and the publisher kicks down a whole mess of bugs at the last minute ... sucks.

I have a pathological fear of roaches. Really can't handle them.

I think it must stem from the time I was a toddler living in Texas and my mom gave me a bottle of apple juice. I started crying because I couldn't get anything out of it, and when my mom opened the bottle to investigate, there was a large cockroash who had crawled into the nipple while it was on the drying rack.

*shudder*

*firm handshake* Good luck, man.

You need centipedes. Big ones. They are the natural predators of roaches, and they are actually quite pretty. They only come out at night. You may need to communicate with the roaches chemically, trying first to be anally clean. Use vinegar and fresh-smelling herbal oils to deter them and interrupt their own chemical communications with each other. If things do not get better in a week, call an exterminator. Roaches are notoriously difficult to get rid of.

Me, I have centipedes and spiders in my house. I do not kill them. I have NEVER seen a roach in my dwelling.

YOU KEEP TWO KINDS OF POISONOUS BUGS IN YOUR HOUSE AND YOU DON'T KILL THEM! [Eek!] SHEESH, THE MOMENT I SEE A SPIDER I DROP EVERYTHING I'M DOING UNTIL I KILL IT. I can't stand 'em.

I feel guilty if I kill them. But they CREEP ME OUT.
All those legs...
Too many legs...
My grandmother used to freak out when she saw centipedes..
At one time I'd take them outside in the hopes that they would not CRAWL on me.
I also used to take crickets outside if they got in.
Crickets are cute.

I grew up in Phoenix, and we had a bad problem with cockroaches in our house. We’d come home in the evening and turn on the lights, and they'd be all over the place. And my mom cleaned all day, every day.

We tried lighting off a bug bomb and leaving the house, and when we came home found dead roaches everywhere. They stayed away for a couple of weeks, and then came back.

We found out that they came in through the drains in the sinks, the tub, and the shower. That means they can swim through the water in the sink traps. We stopped all those drains up at night, but they still came. Finally we saw one come up through the toilet, and knew that we were doomed. That’s a long swim for a little critter.

I don’t like having centipedes around though. I found one in my bed once. Spiders are cool. They don’t get in bed with you.

Mr. Gumby,

They do no harm to me or mine. They have venom, yes, and it seems to be effective against their natural prey. I have no fear of insects or other creatures that have alien morphology. See the "Mommy Bugga Bugga" thread for more about insects. You'll find I'm quite the creepy-crawly advocate.

I find it hard to justify killing creatures that do me no harm, and that benefit me through their existence.

You are cool like Nausicaa...
Which reminds me, would you want to read the others?
And if someone else wants to read it, send it to them...
It could be like... a circle of cool Nausicaa-ness or something that would loop back to me. [Big Grin]

That reminds me! I have your book all packed up to return to you. And I'd love to read more. I would enjoy being part of your Nausicaa club.

We also let centipedes stay in the house, and don't have problems with any other bugs. Except, of course, for the occasional giant black hard-bodied thing with pinchers. I maintain that they look like carpenter ants, but my mother insists they are not.
