My friend and I have been arguing over who is better and doing nothing. I claim I am the better one, because I can keep myself occupied for hours and hours doing random things, for example - laying on the couch throwing a ball up and down, playing hacky-sack with myself, making mazes for insects to walk through, reading cereal boxes, playing dominoes with empty cereal boxes, etc.
I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for improving my doing nothing performance.

You should try sitting and watching birds and squirrels eat at a bird feeder. Also watching the stars wheel around the heavens for hours and seeing if you see any meteors. Sitting at any high point and watching the people or cars go by down below. Watching it rain. Watching how the leaves look as the wind moves them around. Watching bats swooping around at dusk catching bugs. Watching water drip into a full sink or tub and trying to examine the shape that springs up for a few milliseconds at every drop. Watching lightning. Watching cats sleep with their whiskers twitching. Sleeping. Knitting (since that goes so slowly it's the next thing to doing nothing at all).
You are clearly but a novice. Learn from the master.
