It is not nice to say, but Rod Stewart really doesn't have the right voice to sing pop standards!

I saw some ad today. It was Rod Stewart sings all these classic old songs.
Now, I have known about this for sometime having cringed at his version of "The Way You Look Tonight", the best version of that song, in my opinion was sung by Peggy Lee. There's just something sweet and tender about that song being sung by a woman about a man!
He does not have the sort of smooth delivery required for singing standards, few musicians these days have that sort of tender voice like Nat King Cole or Ella Fitzgerald and that is sad.
Worse was hearing Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered by him and CHER! OH, GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
This is just some of the music I get TORMENTED by at the supermarket.

If you ask me, which I readily admit you didn't, Rod Stewart doesn't have the right voice to sing anything.

His rock songs are cool, but standards are special. They require a smooth sort of voice..

What songs constitute pop standards?

Mostly stuff from the 30s-50s maybe?
Songs like, "I got you under my skin." "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," Various Cole Porter stuff like "Let's Do It."
Those classic, excellent songs that get BUTCHERED when companies insist in putting them in ads.
Man, I hate that. [Mad]

I noticed this thread last night when I was checking our new internet connection, but didn't open it up. This morning, when I turned on the radio, they were playing Forever Young by Stewart.

For some reason, that combination made me think that Rob Stewart must have died yesterday.
