quote:The idea came last year while viewing another Web site on which cameras posted in the wild are used to snap photos of animals.
"We were looking at a beautiful white-tail buck and my friend said 'If you just had a gun for that.' A little light bulb went off in my head," he said.
Never mind that seeing a beautiful white-tail buck doesn't make me wish I could shoot it. I find the notion that anyone -- even people who were unable to hunt -- would want to sit in a chair at home and take pot shots at real animals over the internet... bizarre.

I can understand people who hunt and eat the meat, but people who just shoot shite to kill it for fun are despicable.

I can't imagine seeing something alive and getting excited about just killing it. Even when I kill the lowest lifeforms*, there is always some sorrow in me at the loss.
Of course, doesn't mean (as Stormie said) there are no justifications for killing, ever. But joy at the prospect of inflicting death seems misplaced, to say the least.
*except for fleas. I hate fleas. I loved torturing them by drowning them in oil, or submerging them in alcohol and lighting it on fire.

How can it be described as hunting when they have now taken any and all advantages the animal might have away? I don't have a problem with killing animals if you're going to eat it. But I'm not impressed when you sit in a tree stand all day waiting for something to come by and then shoot it. At least then, though, the animal has a few clues it might get shot.

I like to crush'em beneath my mighty fingernails.

Why is killing fleas o.k. but not killing mammals?

Because fleas are pestilential parasites that effect me directly, that is a good reason to kill them.

Hnn Real hunting would be stripping half naked, being armed with a knife and jumping on an animal with your BARE HANDS! Now that is MANLY! (or womanly)

I'll go ahead and be a sexist pig here, but in no way does that fall under what I consider "womanly".

Actually, I can be a bit of a sucker for... well, not the sort of woman who would go hunting with nothing more than a knife, but... hm, it's hard to describe what I mean.

Now what happens if the attendant is walking out there while someone is using the gun? Isn't it possible that they could shoot him...
That would be sick. And you could probably do it anonomosly (spelling?) if you stole someones credit card and were at a public computer.

I knew a man whose fondest fantasy was to be crushed to death between Xena's thighs.
Stormie, the society of fleas actually had a special meeting of the Council of Flea Military Units to wage war on me.
It's self-defense!
Any time I get within a hundred feet of a flea, it can smell me. I'm the best flea-detector known to humanity.

Ants. But only the ones that invade my home. If they stay outside, I will not take aggressive action. Invasion, however, merits lethal force.

Ants, fleas, mosquitos and roaches. All deserve death. I'll leave them alone as long as they're not on me, or in my home, but if they are-they will die.

quote: Can we add ticks to the list? Nasty little boogers.
I had a professor in college who was a strict Buddhist. The summer we had field school, we all got dozens of ticks every day as we were working in large grassy fields and light woodlands. He would always pick the ticks off, stand there for a minute suppressing the urge to kill them, then set them gently in the grass.

How do you know that you're really killing the deer? Via the Internet? Couldn't they just play back some video of ONE deer getting shot, over and over again (play the video back over and over--not shoot the deer over and over; that would be sick).
Hopefully, they'll never get the idea to put these targetting weapons on the frame of a mobile, wi-fi connected, killing robot tank with a public IP address.

Am I the only one who laughed when reading this line? I immediately thought of those funny blue laws that make no sense now. Like how it's against the law in Alaska to serve beer to a moose.
Can you imagine how that law would look to people 50 years ago?

TheTick, no, not all ticks. Just the ones that *shudder* burrow into flesh. ewewewewew.
Sorry, bugs that disrupt skin disturb me greatly. Ticks are the worst, though fleas, mosquitos, and other stinging insects also freak me out.
I'm hoping, however, that you are modeled on the funny blue cartoon superhero. If that's the case, then much hugs! ...but if you're based on the burrowing type, well...I may have to run screaming from the room.
