And, since I didn't get to post it before it was deleted, I'd like to add my support to the use of the terms "pro-life" and "pro-choice", as the alternatives are the equivalent of childish name-calling, and make it difficult to take the rest of the argument seriously.

I'm not against deletion, either, and in some cases have been all for it.
This time, it seemed that the deletion was because of some dissenting views. Which is not my favorite reason. I could be wrong, though.

Mostly I'm just frustrated to have my post baleeted by the "This topic doesn't exist!" monster.

I'd like to reiterate my vanished proposal that people not refer to 'the pro-abortion crowd' as if half the forum wasn't part of it.

I was more astounded by the long thread that got deleted last week but not a murmur was made about it.

The porn thread god deleted? But it was such a good discussion...or it was when I left anyway, I didn't check Hatrack all weekend.

I thought about it later, realized that this may have been a very personal discussion for some involved, and deliberately chose not to comment on the deletion. I do hope the thread was useful to some and harmful to none, but that's about all I have to say about it.

That's annoying. I'm glad I didn't post in it. There was a LOT of very good discussion in that thread. I just assumed it dropped off.
I'm on record as strongly opposing thread deletion. But, if Belle did accidently betray a confidence, and the information had spread beyond her own posts, it might be necessary. Otherwise I'd prefer if the individual posts got edited with an explanation.

I'm with Dags, though I've learned a lesson on Hatrack. I realized that I need to be more merciful, and do not now judge individuals for deleting their own threads, because there are often reasons (as with Belle's) that I would never think of. However as a personal preference I like them to remain.

Dag, I probably could have done that...but it was quicker and much more efficient to just delete it - it was not that many posts and most of them were mine.
As for the pr0n thread - yeah, I kinda enjoyed participiating in it, I thought it was a good discussion. Oh well, I'm sure the deleters had reasons.

I respect the viewpoints of the Pro-Thread-Preservation (PTP) crowd, and I defend their right to express that viewpoint.
Being a PTD'er, I set up thread with warnings of likely future deletion -- aka "Mayflies.". It's the rebel in me.

I thought they were going along nicely. I think that the porn thread might have been deleted for the same reasons Belle deleted her thread. At least, from my reading of it, it seemed like TMI to me.

I was disappointed to see the p0rn thread disappear; I thought it was a very good discussion with a lot of thoughtful opinions. (I actually quoted a couple of Sara Sasse's sentences to the love of my life; we both thought they were great.)

Damn, I wish my memory was better! I remember reading the threads, I think I might have posted in them, but what was discussed?
Nope, it's all gone. Which only serves to prove that in my brain, all threads are automatically deleted.
