I was trying to see if it was possible to coordinate a HatrackCon in Los Angeles with WorldCon (in late August), which some Hatrackers may be attending.
However, it seems like what people are saying the most is: "Too bad it's not earlier in August." And it seems like it may be entirely impractical to balance those attending WorldCon and those who prefer a weekend.
So . . . by raise of hands (or other voting method), please indicate the following:
My preferred dates, are (in order of preference; choose from):
I can do any of them, but I'll prefer all of them in reverse order, simply because the later in the year, the older my kids will be, the more sleep I'll be getting and the less grumpy I'll be.
I will be able to attend:
Just try and stop [us]! (Barring illness, natural disasters, or being abducted by aliens, of course, and with the stipulation that weekend and evening activities/events will probably be the only ones we can attend, and we'll be on a strict budget.)

I start school way early which makes it hard. This year I started before my high school back home started.

I would love to go, but that winter I already have to fly to go to a wedding, very likely, so I'm afraid this HatrackCon is only a fond dream for me...

I have no idea about a date preference, so I'm not even going to put one down.
However, I might be able to come, just maybe, if I can find a relatively inexpensive flight and all other things financial swing that way.

I have no date preferences, but when y'all decide when it is I'll keep an eye out for cheap tickets and come if I can afford it. Although I'm not sure why people keep wanting to throw cons on my birthday. . .

I like the idea, but I can't make plans that far ahead. If it is planned, I will try.
Oh, who am I kidding. I come to everything. Plan it, and I'll do my best to be there. I'm just not a For Sure.

For the first time, California is not too far away. I prefer earlier, but may be able to swing later (classes and all that jazz).

I'm definitly at "Try and and stop me" and the earlier the better. (The closer we get to school starting the crazier my life gets, like most of you.)
But, I WILL be there with bells on. (This will be my first big Hatrack Con.)

If people could also specify if there are dates they absolutely can't make (but can with others), that would be helpful.
For instance, is there anyone for whom August 11-13 is a significant problem and/or much worse than August 4-6?

I will Probably go. If it's Aug. 4-6 I'm almost positive I WON'T be able to go. Otherwise, I'm there. It would be my first big one too, and it's close enough now that I could make it withoug too much struggle.

My preferred dates depend on which session of summer term I take classes in. If it's the first, then all the dates work equally. If it's the second, I could only attend if it were August 18-20. I don't think I'll know until the summer schedule comes out in (I think) March.
For whether I'll attend, I'm gonna go with possibly. It all depends on whether or not I can convince someone to go to Europe with me that summer since I'm almost certain I can't afford two trips.

I might be able to make the trip down to SoCal - I may even be at UCLA doing research next summer. If I'm doing research, it'd be slightly better for the con to be earlier than later, but it wouldn't be a big deal either way.
Anyways, count me as a maybe.

The only date out of those that is remotely possible for me is July 21 - 23. I work all the other days. I'll put myself at "Possibly," though I'm not sure how to differentiate between "possibly" and "just maybe." It's a long way, and an expensive trip. But I figure it's got to be getting close to being my turn, and, if I can afford it, I very much would like to take my father and kids out to CA some time, so this could work.
Do you already have a scoring/weight system in mind for this?

I'm a science teacher, not a math teacher. I was thinking of going with my gut, and then introducing a fudge factor to explain it. Did you have another suggestion?

Why does the "code" feature not seem to work well on any board anymore? Gimme a sec to try and fix that.

Uh... at this point in time I don't think we have any date preferences, and at least some of my family will fall into the "just try and stop me" category (though at least one of us *cough*me*cough* would prefer it to be a "just try to stop me" category, since "try and" in his *cough*my*cough* book falls into the same category as "could care less" rather than "couldn't care less").
So yes, I'd like to think at least some of the Moose clan would be in attendance.

Hubby and I could probably be there if it was Aug 18-20. We're planning on attending a conference in Lake Forest from Aug 16-18, so we'll be in the area anyway. Might as well stay a couple more days.
Otherwise, I'd be in the 'just maybe' category.

Wow . . . fondly dreaming of a weekend away . . . curious about potential car-pooling, railroads, airline tickets and/or luxury hotels . . . *laughs remembering some of the scary dives has stayed this month when traveling for work*
"Possibly," and The first set of July dates when Nathan is visiting with his dad . . .
followed by "Maybe" and the last set of August dates with Nathan . . .

Isn't it too early to pick dates? I mean, I'd give you 6 months out, but 10? I can't imagine beng scheduled that far in advance. Y'all impress me.
