You people are cruel. How can you offer, even in jest, names that would be such torture for anyone to bear? Yozhik, I pray you grant the unnamed one a boon and pick a different moniker.

You could always go with Daniel. If it's good enough for Butros-Butros Gali, it's good enough for Daniel.
Yes, I know that "Butros" isn't actually his middle name. Sometimes you have to sacrifice fact for funny. That's just the way it is.

I think that if the last name has one or two syllables, choose a two syllable middle name with the stress on the first syllable.
Daniel Robert Daniel David Daniel Evan Daniel Jason Daniel Justin Daniel Joseph
(The last three have the advantage of having the cool nickname "DJ")
If the last name has more than two syllables, chose a middle name with one syllable.
Daniel Mark Daniel Kyle Daniel Brett Daniel Scott
If the last name has one syllable, you might get away with a three syllable middle name.
Daniel Zachary Daniel Frederick Daniel Oliver
Or, do what they do in my family, and choose a name that honors a loved one. The name will come with a built-in history ("you were named for your great-uncle Jeremiah, because we hoped that you would be as strong and upright as he always was"), and perhaps most-favored-nephew status come birthdays and holidays.

Seriously, how many kids do you know with the middle name moses? And if you're going for one Biblical name, may as well get the second for free.

Osty, Great choice. I mean, really brilliant and productive people, those loved by all and are truly worthy of your worship and adulation are named Daniel Allen.
Mighty Cow--1. Actually, its his first name, but close enough.
While I think Allen shows integrity and all the right and righteous virtues, much may depend on the last name--especially where initials are concerened. (Mine being D.A.D--it is cute.)
However, Raven is also a good middle name--with lots of mystery and symbolism. Plus, when he signs his name, he could just use those initials, and see how much better treatment he recieves. Think about it. D.R. Smith kind of looks like DR. Smith, especially if he plays loose with the periods.

I know a family that uses a name from the Old Testament for the first name and a name from the New Testament for the middle name. So, there's a few NT names to pick from - the 12 Apostles, for a start.

I'd suggest not picking a name from the bible just because it's from the bible. Whatever you pick, it should be something that really means something to you - something both you and your child can be proud of.

I've got to admit that I'm really partial to "Daniel Danger," especially if his last name is something like "Czlewoski."

Well, my son Daniel's middle name is Wesley, but that's after his father. Are there some family names you'd like to incorporate? All my kids' middle names are after family members, except one, and that one was just because I really, really liked it.

I like Tante's syllable system. I'm kind of partial to the one-syllable middle name rhythm, but that may be because my own last name has three syllables and I'm subconsciously using it to "finish" the full name.
My father's name is James Daniel, and thus I think Daniel James is a good name. However, I don't particularly care for the DJ nickname - makes me think of Full House.
Daniel Sylvester Daniel Geronimo Daniel Spencer Daniel Christopher Daniel Tiresias Daniel Stuart Daniel Eric Daniel Nicholas
Some of those are serious, and some not. I'll leave you to decide which are which.

I'll second rollainm's suggestion. My first name has a great story behind it and my middle name is my grandmother's, and I'm very proud of both. The meanings make me appreciate the names all the more.

Just remember to check to see if the initials spell anything you don't want spelled. That's why, with the last name of Foltz, our daughter isn't Amanda Rose. We picked my grandmother's middle name, Katherina, instead. (I wouldn't give her the initials A.R.F. and I wouldn't name her Gladys - my grandmother's first name.)
So, if your last name starts with D, for instance, Ulysses is probably out.

I'm really partial to Daniel Joseph, myself. That's my little bro's name and think it goes well together. Of course, both Daniel and Joseph are also two of my absolute favorite people in the Old Testament, as well. And the DJ thing is pretty cool, too.

Pix: We never ran into that problem. My dad always thought it was kind of silly to name someone something and call them something else (and this is coming from a man who has been called "Duck" most of his life,) so my brother never was a Dan or a Danny. We do call him DJ sometimes, but he goes by Daniel.

However, after the ultrasound on Wednesday, it turns out that we don't need a boy name after all...

Go with Love for the middle name. I wouldn't want to date a woman who said, "Danger is my middle name" (OK, maybe I would) but if she said, "Love's my middle name", hot dog!

Jamie thinks I'm kidding when I tell her I want my sons name to be "Eric The Destroyer of All Evil Novak." She just can't accept the level of cool that would give my son.

I say give kids a wacky middle name. They can ignore it if they want, but if they own it, they're going to get so much action, it won't even be funny.
