Okay, this will be a challenge, and I'll be shocked if someone can think of this song on so little information.
It starts like this:
Hey, [line 1, it might be a question.] Hey, [line 2, it might be a question.]
The only part I'm really sure about is the first Hey, and at least one of the hey's is sung in two notes. It's kind of an old song, but not too old--probably in the 90s, at the lastest the early 2000s. The verse part (I don't know about the chorus) has a slow and steady sort of rhythm.
And it's not that Paul McCartney song. Every time I try to start singing the song, Hey Jude gets stuck in my head. Argh.
Anyway, that's not much to go on, I know! I don't know the artist, and I can't think of any other songs that the same artist does. (If I could this would be easy, but I don't think there are any. I think I just liked the song, not the group.) Oh, and the title doesn't start with "hey," just the song.
This is driving me crazy, so I'm hoping for a miracle...
Edit: And it's a male singer.

Well..let me correct and say I'm positive that's the song I've been trying to think of since I read the first post.

I should warn you, before you go look up the rest of the lyrics to "Hey mister"... they're potentially very offensive.

I confess to loving that song, despite having two daughters myself... then again, the thought of them having sex sometime in the future doesn't make me want to reach for a shotgun, either.
It fits almost everything but not having "hey" in the title (though for a time I thought it was called "I Hope I Never Have a Daughter") and having a two syllable "hey" in there.

I can't hum it! I can only remember Hey, and the "sense" of what comes next, nothing specific.
It's an alternative type of song. Um, some other similar (I think) songs that have come to me while trying to think of it are Spacehog's In the Meantime (but that could be a chronological thing), and Jude's "Superfreak" (might not be the exact title) and it might remind me of that song because of the Hey Jude, thing.
Edit: I get the sense that the guy is asking a girl a question. Not really a Do you Love me? type of question, but something else... I can't really express it because I can only grasp it for a second.
