Paul Karasik has collected and edited this volume, containing full-story examples the brief, bizarre comics work of Fletcher Hanks.
Who is Fletcher Hanks?
Why, the creator of Stardust the Super Wizard and Fantomah, of course! Whom almost know one knows of...they were third-rate characters published in fourth-rate comics that almost no one even tried to save.
Fletcher was one of the earliest artists/writers of super-hero comics. He illustrated demented, savage, brutal stories of revenge and retribution by nigh omnipotent heroes. His figures had grotesque, extreme facial expressions that rarely (if ever) changed. His anatomy was completely screwy...he makes Rob Liefeld art look realistic.
His work has quite the cult following today. It's obvious he had talent, but he put it to such odd use...then vanished from the world of comics without a trace after 1941.
His characters are in the public domain now. Doing a search for "Stardust the Super Wizard" can give you a taste of what his stuff was like.
Most of the stories in the collection aren't available in full online. There's also a new comic by Paul Karasik (an accomplished cartoonist) about how he tracked down Fletcher Hanks Junior, and finally found out the truth about the elusive artist.
This is worth at least a flip through. Trust me.
