I'm kind of sad that Queen Latifah is hocking Jenny Craig now. To me, Queen Latifah always embodied confidence and beauty can come in a big, comfortable person.

Also, when you're full figured, you should know 20 lbs. isn't really going to make that much difference. 20 lbs. less, I still can't buy pants at Costco.

I don't know. Maybe I just don't understand what Jenny Craig is about. Mostly, I remember Monica Lewinsky was going to work for them for a while, but I never really heard much more about it.

I like how Queen Latifah is saying a more healthy lifestyle. I have been working out for two months now and although I have not lost much weight (I'm still at 260 lbs.), I do feel better. I have more energy and I feel like I can get off the couch and play with the kids more.

I think just by featuring spokespeople who aren't currently rail-thin, and certainly haven't always been at optimal weight (health wise), Jenny Craig is elevating itself above most of the weight loss industry. Whether Jenny Craig otherwise sticks to promoting health over looks, and quality of life over social conformity, I don't know, but I'm more inclined to believe they might based on their spokespeople.

I guess there is that side to it, scifibum. I guess I just doubt whether Jenny Craig is principally health conscious. Aren't they a program that supplies all the meals? The "lose 20 lbs." tag especially makes me wonder.

I think that an obese person losing 20 lbs would significantly reduce their health risks.

It depends. Do you know the technical definition of obese? (edit: When I say full-figured, I would exclude obesity since that's the point that weight does correlate to health problems)It also depends a lot of whether the weight lost is accomplished through restricting calories or increasing activity.

This struck me one day as I looked at someone's bookshelf and they had a few dozen books on various diets and only a couple about exercise. I think overwhelmingly when we look at a fat person we think "they eat too much" and not "they don't exercise enough" or even "they watch too much TV."

Along those lines, I checked out Over the Hedge for my kids again this weekend and it has some pretty good satire with respect to Americans and food.

I can;t help thinking Queen Latifah looks fine the way she is.
She had it going on in Chicago.

The thing that bothers me is how this encourages people to continue to think of her as a large beautiful and talented woman, instead of a beautiful and talented woman who is larger than the norm (for Hollywood).
