My current job is not very conducive to conversation, and i find myself an single dad in my 30's with almost no friends, so i wonder, how does a person make new friends if not through work?

A long time ago, i made a few friends through the forum, but that doesn't seem like an option anymore.

Church helps me find friends.

Also meet ups or clubs based around common interests. I make friends at International Brotherhood of Magicians meetings.

Most conventions have a section for fan groups that get together for activities or charity events. You could take your time and talk to people at those tables.

Sometimes staying at my kids' events and practices instead of dropping them off and picking them up, the other dads gravitate together.

My heart goes out to you. It really is hard.

In life, you must first cultivate your own good habits, know how to care and how to care about other people's personalities and thoughts! Then there is to keep your own circle and participate in some meaningful social activities and gatherings.
