Having just had a brush with an author who, in the guise of being helpful, wasted a good deal of my time bragging, I was reminded what an incredible group of people are assembled on this site. There is something about helping other writers that makes us better writers ourselves, and I'm lucky to have discovered this weird fact at the beginning of my writing career. Thanks!!!

Thank you for letting us know, Unwritten. It's nice to be appreciated.

As for that author, I have noticed on occasion that just because someone can DO something doesn't mean they can TEACH it to others.

To me part of the value of this forum is that not only is it supposed to help writers improve as writers, but it should also help them improve as teachers, critiquers, givers of feedback. That way, they can "pay it forward." And I consider that an extremely valuable thing to be able to do.
