I was pleasantly surprised, on looking around, to find this site is far more than the usual, "I started writing yesterday, and here's what I wrote. Ain't I great?"

From what I can see it's the place I wish I'd found years ago.

As for me, I'm old, crotchety, and never did set women's hearts aflutter when I came into the room. But still, I'm a romantic.

When people meet me, they often say, "Damn, but he's a..." But after they get to know me, they realize that they were right.

Still, I'm not as bad as people say, though who could be? I love writing, and that has to count for something.

Welcome to Alvin Maker's Hatrack River writing community. Look forward to seeing a fragment or two for feedback.

The homepage link on your profile page doubles the protocol prefix and, ergo, generates a page error on click. (http://https://).

So -- an ex-authonomy member -- now that it's defunct per September 2015. Been there done that. What a popularity pageantry. Little substance for its tenure, even the fifty or so titles out of the many ten thousands posted that HarperCollins picked for publication. Language and craft about par or less for self-publication culture. Whatever happened to editorial discernment?

At the least, for me, authonomy was a resource for learning the many mediocrities of raw, craft-awareless submissions editors and publishers encounter and decline. Never mind the clumsy -- well, low-grade grammar skills.

Hi Jay! I joined at the start of December and I also wish I'd found this site years ago! The feedback process (both on the stuff I submit but also on giving feedback to others and reading feedback that others post as well) has been immensely helpful. For example, I always thought I had a decent grasp of grammar until extrinsic set me straight. Ha! Seriously, though. In one month, this site has helped me hone my writer's eye/ear/etc. It's upped the quality and substance of the feedback I give in my real-world writer's group, too. Good stuff. Welcome aboard.
