Sorry, I couldn't vote. I think Jessica needs to keep her long, lovely hair.

LONG!!!
[Razz]
There are not enough women with long hair (nor enough men)!!!

I have hair down to my KNEES (almost) [Eek!] ! And if we have more long haired people, maybe others will quit telling me to cut mine.... [Mad]

I've noticed only women tell me I should cut my hair [Grumble] (not all women, but it's usually women who tell me to), and men tell me they think it's beautiful. [Blushing]

Granted, I keep my hair long because I love it, but this is Jessica's hair thread, so I'll shut up. [Big Grin]

No offense to your friend, and maybe those pictures aren't indicative of her normal expression, but she looks so glum. A smile would go a lot further than a different hairstyle in making her 'prettier'.

I know exactly what you mean, Starla. Every time I go to get my hair trimmed, the stylist tells me how "this friend of mine had really long hair and she finally cut it to frame her face and now she's so cute" It's all a conspiracy. They just want to chop off a huge amount of hair. They're sick! They're all sick!

Its marketing. They are afraid you won't pay outrageous prices for a trim. They figure you need to feel bulk removed in order to feel well served.

See, if I ever tried to cut my hair, my friends would chop my head off. Nobody has ever told me to cut my hair off. Ever.

I was thinking of cutting all my hair off last night. There's a way to change your outlook. Let's see a sweet smile improve on that!

I actually liked style 6 best, but since style 7 is a similar length and more people were voting for it I picked that one. I hated the one that was almost shoulder length but had twigs poking out all over the lower third. But you should keep in mind that my best year was 1989, so all my fashion sense is firmly rooted in that aesthetic.

Pooka, I've known a lot of women who look better in nappy jeans, a t-shirt, shaved heads and bare feet, than the best attired woman on the planet.

I think if more people focused on the/their body itself rather than what covers it, they would be much better looking. [Smile]

I've tried to grow my hair out since 1st grade and finally, this summer, cut off 10" for Locks of Love. It was traumatic and even though I like my new, shoulder-length hair I think I will try to grow it out again. Long hair is so much more luxourious and neat, so much more fun to play with.

I also think that Jessica should keep her hair long, just trim off 3-4" to neaten up the bottom.

But mack, it look so cute short!

This reminds me of this guy in our old ward who bore his testimony about the importance of his hairstyle in his life's journey. (at the time he had a long, curly ponytail but used to be a mousse and mirror fan). Shortly thereafter the Bishop instituted a "roving mic only" policy for testimony meeting (meaning he did not want to be responsible for the things that were being said over the pulpit.) It was a very interesting time.

So "Brother Hair" (not his real name) had to get his hair cut for advancement in his field (as a homeless advocate) which was why he felt the need to publicly eulogize it. The following year the Bishop moved and the reformed Brother Hair was called as counselor to the new bishop.

Now I don't know for certain whether Brother Hair's testimony was the reason for the Bishop suspending the ward's pulpit priviledges, but it was certainly one of the more memorable of the "not centered on the Savior in a real obvious way" testimonies in our ward. Though of course Brother Hair was meaning to express his feelings about the outward man and spirituality.

My hair is just past shoulder length, and that is because I stupidly keep going to women to cut my hair.

They all want to chop it. All of them. Why? I don't know, but I'm tired of the pleasepleasepleasedon'tchopme talk that doesn't work. I think every female stylist wants to make her clients look like her. Men don't have the issue, so they'll listen.

My mom always had really long hair when I was little. One time, I saw a picture of Crystal Gayle, who had hair to her feet. I pointed out to my mom that her hair was only to her waist.

"Yeah, well, it's not that big of an accomplishment," my mom said, "she's short."

Another longhair voting for her to keep it long. Mine's down to my bum, auburn with a little gray starting to sneak in. But that's okay, because I've earned every single one of those gray hairs. [Razz]

I remember when I was getting ready to turn thirty, all the little old ladies kept telling me, "You know, you have to get your hair cut short now." Huh? I'm 47 now and my hair is longer than it was then. And if I have anything to say about it, it's staying that way. I look stupid in short hair (and I had it really short in high school, so I'm not just guessing here).

I got my hair cut short (just between my jaw and my shoulders) after having long hair for a very long time (usually about the middle of my shoulderblades) and I love love love it. You see, I am a bit of a fatty (it's okay if I call *myself* fat, not okay if someone else does it *grin*) and I am getting older, and I didn't want to be one of those sad-looking women. You know those women. The heavy women on Springer (for instance) with long, straight hair that looks oily and inappropriate.
I used to love to braid my long hair and play with it, but it came to be such a chore. And it was boring. And it took so very, very long to wash and condition. Soon, I just wore a ponytail Every D*mn Day.
Now I have short floofy hair. It kind of looks like I sneezed and blew the back of my head out (if I mousse it just right!). I can flip the ends out, or under. I can run my fingers through my hair (a habit I have when I am thinking) and not have it take all day long to get to the ends.
My hair is healthier because I get it trimmed more often.
It takes five minutes to shower completely.
I no longer drag my hair into the spaghetti sauce or get it trapped in the washing machine lid.
My husband doesn't roll over my hair in the middle of the night and trap me under his shoulders.
I feel my age (which is perfectly fine with me, I *like* my age). I look better. And dangit, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look better!

That said, I do miss the cute Pippi Longstocking braids I could make. I have trouble making a ponytail. My husband was Quite Put Out (he, of course, liked the long hair). I spend more money on haircuts because they are more frequent. Sometimes I forget I have shorter hair and I use Way Too Much Conditioner and walk around all day with heavyhair.

Meh.

I think Jessica might like a change. I did. And I agree that a smile would do more for her than any haircut could. She looks like a lovely person!

ETA: mack's hairdo is entirely appropriate to who she is. Her face would look ghastly with long hair. She is a sleek, athletic person. I miss mack. She needs to come visit me again. *sniffle*

I think mack's hair looks great. I've had my hair really short several times (I think the shortest I've had it was about 1.5" on top, with the back and sides like mack's), but it tends to get curly/poufy when it's that short, which isn't my favorite thing. I wish my hair was straight like mack's!

For about the last ten years my hair has been between the bottom of my ears and my shoulders (with the occasional bouts of really short). It's actually pretty long right now (brushing the tops of my shoulders). It'll be interesting to see how long I let it get before it makes me crazy and I have to cut it.

First, I don't think that Jessica should cut her hair. For me, it's not a long or short issue - it's a matter of what style will best suit her face. I think her current length is good, although she could use a trim. I don't think that the texture of her hair will lend itself to any of the hairstyles shown. Just brushing her shoulders would be perfect. The color is lovely, btw.

As for you long-hairs, I just hope you are all using plenty of good conditioner. [Smile]

I know I look much better with short hair - I like long hair, but it doesn't suit me so well. Plus my hair is super curly so it was a pain. I spent a fortune on conditioner alone!

Funny this should come up...I think the hair is GOING this weekend. It's been driving me crazy. I've had it really short (I'm the girl on the right) and since my mission I've grown it out and permed it...but now the perm is pushing a year and it's straight and straggly. The horror.

Well, some of you will soon see what I eventually decide to do. [Wink]

jexx, sounds like a fantastic cut. Cool!

I'm asian, and always wanted the long dark silky hair. but it just poofs. My sisters that have straight hair envy me, and I'm like "here, take it!"

I'm shooting for just barely to the shoulders, so long enough for pigtails if needed but not long enough for one ponytail.

Katherina--I know! And I don't know why! Every woman I work with (especially the younger ones) keep telling me "you should cut it, it'll look soo much better.

I think they're jealous.

Plus, I read something somewhere about women's hair and how it pertains to various religions. It was believed in ancient times a woman's hair held her power---which is part of the reason why women are supposed to keep it covered in church (the catholic one, though that is not as followed in America anymore), the Judeaic and Islamic faiths. The woman's father and/or husband were the only men allowed to see it.

There was something in a Mennonite pamphlet about it too, but it's a bit of a wordy explaination.

Y'know, working in a grocery store--I see a lot of women who do this, usually after having a child. Some women it suits, but for most, it doesn't. They look frumpy and old, when they're only 28 or 29 (but the kids have something to do with that, but the hair doesn't help).

My mother is 50 and has hair to her waist. She considered cutting it, b/c of similar pressures, but then realized she would have to play with it every morning to get it to behave, so she stuck with the long hair.
quote:

Yes, I am. [Smile] It's best to just put shampoo on your scalp and rub the remaining suds down the length real quick and to keep most of the conditioner towards the bottom.
When you have really long hair, most of the dirt and oil stays up by the scalp---so you don't really need a lot of soap.

People always play with my hair, it's long and completely straight (down to middle of my back) and a lot of girls comment on it, especially those with curly hair. My hair used to knot a lot, but then half of it fell out so now it doesn't at all.

My mother always tells me I should cut it- I never do anything with it, really, nothing fancy anyway, but I like the fact that it is there. I had short hair as a child, and I'm always pleasantly surprised when I look at myself as a child, however, I like it long.

This was ramblish. In short (heh heh heh no pun intended) I like short hair on other people, but I am a long hair advocate. [Smile]

My hair is down to my shoulders at the moment. I've tried it both long (mid-back-length) and short (chin-length) and I like it best the way it is now. When it's too long it starts to get in my way and annoy me, plus it puffs out REALLY BIG. When it's too short it still puffs, but it puffs straight out from my head and makes me look like a mushroom. [Grumble]

(Of course, it puffs when it's shoulder-length, too, but at least this way it looks relatively normal some of the time.)
