so i was talking to a close girlfriend that lives really far away and has no medical insurance. the good news is she got hired as a special ed. teacher and so eventually will have benefits, but she is worried about a problem she's been having.

she said that she has been spotting and then bleeding the days following intercourse with her sig. other. she said it may nor may not correlate with the times that sex is painful, but that occasionally it is.
she said she has been bleeding about 25% of the times after intercourse.
she is a really little lady, but she said she should be , well, "used to it by now" as far as size wise when it comes to intercourse.

her period has always been regular, but her cramps are starting to get worse and worse.

she is 23, about 5'1 and aprox. 100 lbs.
any ideas?
if this is too graphic a thread let me know and anyone with info can email me.

i love how going to the doctor really is the correct answer for everything, and yet almost no one i know can actually afford medical treatment.

i am really really considering changing citizenship, america has just totally missed the boat on the healthcare issue. i can only breathe halfway every day because i simply cannot afford the proper medical care. i slide by on enough medication to keep me alive, but i never get better and i'm never truly free.

I'm with you on the healthcare issue, porce. When I was a single mom the only way that I could afford my daughter's medical bills was through medicaid. It would be beneficial for all if the system were changed.

Do have your friend check out planned parenthood. They do exams on a sliding scale and are very affordable.

even if you don't think you're pregnant?

public health wouldn't even let me TALK to a doctor in virginia unless i had been sleeping around.

i'll let her know.
more than anything she is worried that it is something that could affect her ability to bear children.

I used to go to PP all the time for my yearly exams. If she can find a PP, she should be able to get one. It's important that she do, since her problems could be indicative of a health issue or even an STD.

planned parenthood did regular exams for me on a sliding scale.

I think it probably depends on how "used" to sex she is. If this is her first partner, this could still be well-within normal. It could be her hymen that is bleeding or that she has minor tearing with intercourse. The cramping is getting worse with her period or is this cramping from the other bleeding? If it is not her menstrual cramps getting worse, this is definitely worrying. She could have a hemmorage.

It really took me a couple of months to be "comfortable" with sex in the physical sense.

Just my opinion...obviously doctor would be best.

I agree with Opera -- the most common causes are some pretty serious stuff: Link

Although it can be relatively minor: Link

she has been with this guy since the seventh grade (they actually have one of the most awesome relationships i've ever known of, complete best friends.) but i know they have been having sex at least for a couple years. i know they aren't extremely active, but i think i took for granted she's been with him enough during the course of their relationship that it wouldn't be a serious issue anymore.

the cramping is with her period. even with this bleeding she still has her period as normal.
i know she definitely needs to be checked out, and i will call/email her with y'all's advice tout suite.

my first guess is endometriosis. but it's certainly just a guess. Pain during intercourse and severe menstral cramps fit the picture. Unfortunately, infertility is a problem with endometriosis, so she should definitely get checked out.

Do they have county health departments where you live? We have them here in Florida, and they only charge if you make a certain amount. I make decent pay as a bank teller and I only pay 33% for my visits.
