Massive SOTG spoilers here. Reader beware!

What will Bean’s kids do with his body after he dies?

Can you make waste dumps while traveling close to light speed? I don’t think any of the other books in the Ender series broach this topic.

So what willthey do? Especially if he dies in an awkward place. He is eating breakfast and his heart gives out. They will be less than two years old when he dies. How would they move his massive body?

Poor kids. Quite the price to pay for extreme intelligence.

Isn't the fact that Bean won't be bound by gravity giving him a few extra years?

Well, since everyone needs to dispose of waste somehow, there must be a plan set in place.

And yuck.

Well, at least they'll be well equipped to figure something out.

Since the voyage will only be a few weeks (maybe a year or so) subjectively he probably won't die on the ship (unless of course they NEVER find a cure).

hopefully they'll be alittle older than two when he dies, since he's supposed to teach them how to run the ship. or can they run it at age two? [Confused]

anyway, good question...

OSC said something yesterday at the Pittsburgh book signing about Bean dying. I can't remember it word for word, but basically, he said it's inevitable. We've known since Ender's Shadow what his condition is. So he doesn't need to write the death scene.

As for what they will do with the body? They're smart kids. They'll figure something out.

What does going at near light speed have anything to do with waste dumps? Motion is all relative. As long as the spaceship isn't accelerating, there's no issue.

Bean's death is not inevitable.

Maybe Bean's kids will find the cure. They are the smartest "humans" in the universe. What else do they have to do on that ship?

Maybe Bean's brain will live on indefinitely long after his body fails him. The brain can be attached to the ship's computer, which is in turn linked to Jane via ansible. So yes, that means Ender-Peter marries Bean-Jane. [Razz]
