Last week Thursday, my friend and I went for a hike in a very small national park on the other side of the river. It's beautiful, with lots of small lakes and bushes and big oak trees. There is also some wild cattle like those big red and black hairy cows with huge horns, we call them Scottisch Highlanders. And some horses too.
We walked along the left shore of a small lake until we saw a place we might cross. Guess what, when we came there, a small rowing boat was lying there, waiting for us. It was attached to a rope, with which you could pull yourself to the other shore. So that's what we did. On the other side there was this wonderful wooden path, not much used so we went through a green tunnel.
But alas, the path ended and we had to follow the shore for a while. Until we couldn't go any further because there were too many trees and there was no more room between those and the water. So we just had to go through the bush. We didn't mind, it was quite fun but of course it is forbidden to not follow the paths.
Anyway, some way along there we found a dead bull lying in some small pond. Only his shoulders and head with the big horns stuck out and the smell was awful. The poor animal must have got stuck in the mud.
We passed by and discussed whether we should report this. We guessed we should, so that's what I did first thing the next morning. I explained where to find the beast, but this morning I got a call from the guys of Staatsbosbeheer saying they couldn't find him. So I went over there and helped with the search. At last we found him again, but it wasn't easy to remember where it was. Now they are discussing how to get the bull out of there, it's an impossible place to reach with the kind of machinery you need to pull him out of there. They told me they'd inform me about how this story will end.
By the way, on the way we found a small card lying on the shore near the place where the bull was. It came from a balloon and it said 'Ivan and Mathilde married today! Please send us congrats. I wonder what marriage that will become [Big Grin]
Oh, and we didn't get a fine for leaving the path. [Smile]
