Last night, I held a pot-luck dinner party. The theme was "Things that are difficult to eat." Appetizers began with peanuts, pistachios, and edamame in the pod. Soon we had steamed artichoke and fresh pomegranate. Mmm... Tasty.

Many things that are difficult to eat are seafood. One of my friends cooked five lobsters, and another cooked three dungness crabs. Those were ready on time, and a few of us spent a great deal of time cracking those suckers open. For those who don't like seafood, we had baby-back ribs, rotisserie chicken, and breaded chicken wings (made by Beca).

All in all it was a delightful dinner. There were eleven of us, and we managed to eat almost everything.

Unfortunately, the room was a mess. We piled up all the dishes, but left most of the cleaning to this morning.

This morning, I washed a huge set of plates, and cleaned off the table surfaces. Then I noticed that we had left the trash can lid on the ground next to the trash can. It's one of those lids with a swivel angled top, so you push the lid down to drop in the trash.

I picked it up, and out ran a brown mouse! It ran straight back under the refrigerator. And lying in a lovely silhouette of the trash can lid were dozens and dozens of little mouse turds.

I haven't cleaned up the mouse droppings yet. I'm going to wait till my apartment-mate wakes up and sees it [Razz]

Hehe! What happened to the mouse?

I love most of the things you've mentioned, geez, now I'm hungry...

Oh the mouse is still hanging about. I don't mind a mouse-friend, as long as it doesn't leave mouse poop all over my shelf.

Though I'm concerned there might be pounds of mouse droppings in the walls. [Big Grin]

*Sets up a swimming pool and a ping pong table*

Since I get such little lovin', I'm going to set up my own little thread. Just for my own lounging.

[Razz] [Razz] [Razz]

Seriously, man. Why would I stay at Hatrack when I get less than five posts in all the threads I ever start?? I've done personal-emotional, personal-interesting, personal-funny, fluffy, and reactionary. Nary an interest.

This is my turf, now. I name this Sun-only thread.

You are learning quickly, young padiwan.

But you are not a self-promoter yet.

I love artichokes. However, in the mid-west, they suck. In the last 15 years, I've looked everytime I've gone to the grocery store and I've yet to find one that I'd buy. I miss California, sometimes. [Frown]

Other themes we've had are:
1. Things that get stuck in your teeth
2. Things stuffed with themselves
3. Wrapped night (moo shu, sushi, fajitas)
4. Dumplings night (pierogies, wontons, southwest dumplings, samosas)

Feel free to steal 'em =)

I've always wanted to do a "raw foods" night, but it's pretty much vegetables, fruits, and prosciutto

Oh man! I hate eating ribs. It's far too much of a pain. Seafood is worth it, but ribs...no. Breaded chicken wings aren't too bad, but hot wings are far too messy. Whoever came up with chicken strips is a genius!

Yah, it was a fun dinner. Heavy on the meat, though - I guess a raw food night would balance that out, though.

It was mentioned that we could do an allergy night. Where each guest can eat everything except for one dish - preferably not all the same dish.

It *would* be a little dangerous, though - always a chance of cross-contamination.

Godric, you'll have to come back to Baltimore and have the ribs at the Mt Vernon Stable (where we ate lunch after the art museum). They have the best ribs and you can eat them with a knife and fork. The meat just falls off the bones. I have an almost pathological aversion to eating things like ribs, fried chicken, etc. in public because they are so messy, but these ribs have totally snuck under that radar. Mmmmmmmm. [Big Grin]

I thought I threw some pretty rockin' dinner parties, but I'll have to say - yours kick my trash. Very inventive. Lovely, lovely.
