Wow, I start about three days ahead of time. After all, you need to cut and dry the bread for the stuffing. On Wednesday, I usually peel the potatoes, make the stuffing, and bake the pies. That way, on Thursday, all I really have to do is shove the turkey in the oven, boil/mash the potatoes and make the side dishes and gravy.

Peel... Potatoes? For Mashing? What kind of messed up place are you people from? (In other words, why don't you mash them with the peels on. They're much better that way.)

I type up a timetable every year so I know what has to be done when, and what has to bake at which temperature. (Why, oh why do home kitchens only have one oven? )

My mother won an oven at an event of some sort right before we started remodeling the house. Her new kitchen had two ovens and two stovetops. It was wonderful.

For anyone who doesn't already have a preferred method of cooking turkey, I highly reccomend brining it as described here.
It cooks faster, it tastes great, and the gravy from the drippings turns out perfectly without adding any extra seasoning.

First, let me say thanks Feyd, for clearing up the whole gender issue. Whew!
I thought, last night, that my husband would be home so I could talk to him and confirm plans, but he didn't get in until 3am. Since I had to work all day, and I just got home and he's not here, I still haven't talked to him. But I will tonight. He's promised to be home by 9 tonight.
If I do come, Bob will have to make room in his trunk for the partially thawed (by then) turkey I plan to bring. Everything else can be bought on Wednesday, no problem. I'll make lists for us.
If nobody else volunteers, I'll be head cook. How's that sound?

Okay. I'm coming. My kids are coming. My sister may or may not be coming, depending on when her orientation for her new job is. Most important, though, that huge turkey in my freezer is coming!!
Guess you're drivin' to Tulsa first, Bob. Want me to call you after 9pm CST (when I get free nationwide long distance) to iron out details?

Also if it is really necessary I can use the oven in the club room as well as the one in my apartment. Though that kitchen is about a block away, so we'd need to REALLY need it for it to be worth using.
Just need to know when Mack is landing.

kat, we deep fried the turkey five years running, then I tried the brine method last year. It was even better, so the deep frier has been retired. (Except that we used it for pitchfork fondue when Bob came over.)

If you want a turkey that has been treated with salt, you needn't do it yourself. Just buy a kosher one.

I was going to stuff it with lemons, onions and fresh herbs (and discard). Do you think that I should brine it as well, or would that be too much? Everyone I've talked to says that brining is good.
Hmm....may need to plug in that fridge in the garage *grin*

Dang, I'm going to have to put off meeting hatrackers (in person), yet again.
Ok, I just found out that I've got the day before Thanksgiving off (I didn't request it, and therefore assumed I wouldn't have it). Unfortunately, this means I will have time to travel home and be with the family.

Okay, I get that T isn't coming, and while I'm sorry you won't be there, I'm glad you'll be with family.
On the other hand, I'm thoroughly confused about Mack. Are you coming or not? Am I actually going to have to cook for these guys by myself?

Bummer.
Okay, official list, who's coming? I have 2 turkeys in the freezer, and the number of people coming to this thing is going to affect which one gets thawed.
For sure: Caleb (it's his house, no brainer) Bob ('cause he can't decide not to go since he's giving me a ride ) Me Daniel (my 6 year old) Jennifer (my 5 year old) Either the large or the huge turkey in my freezer.

I'm a maybe, leaning towards a no. It's largely a cost of transportation issue, plus the possibility of heading back home for a bit.

Let's wait and see what happens with Boon. Tabithecat is also confirmed to come, as well.
I was thinking (actually this was tabi's suggestion to me via phone) we could take Thursday night, after the meal, to go down to the Plaza and watch the lighting ceremony. That's about as Kansas City as you can get, isn't it Kayla?
Bob, wanna see the pretty lights?

Caleb, I could probably deal with three of y'all if you want to come out here. I do know how to cook and I'm not bad at it. I know, we'll wait to see what happens with Boon et. al., but if it's just going to be you three, and no one (who lives at your place ) knows how to cook and all. . .
Y'all could still go see the lights and have a slumber party at Caleb's, though. I'd just cook food and throw it on the table for you. Let me know. (Besides, since we're doing Atkins, I wasn't really planning on doing the "traditional" Thanksgiving dinner and hubby has been grumbling about wanting pie and stuffing. If y'all come here, then I could make those things, and he could have a little bit, then I could send the leftover carbs home with you. Always scheming, I am. )

I know what you mean. If y'all are coming here, I'd like to go shopping. If y'all are cooking yourselves, I'd like to start praying for you now.

I'm so very sorry, guys. I can't go.
I'd blame it on hubby, but that would be too honest.
You could come here...I just can't leave. Although it sounds like you guys are making other plans.
If you guys don't want to come here, maybe Bob would like to stop by for lunch on his way through? Oh, wait...it's an extra hour, isn't it? Well...free lunch if you wanna come by anyway, Bob.

Oh, and Boon, he has to go back to Texas, too. If pressed for time on the way down, he could always stop on the way back.

True, very true. You know you want to try my famous key lime pie, dontcha Bob?
Seriously, though, you can stop by to eat leftovers outta my 'fridge to make room for leftover Thanksgiving fare if you come before... or you could eat leftovers outta my fridge if you come by after. Or, you could stop by both ways... Hey, two free meals?!? What could be better than that?

I was looking up bus prices, and given another bus trip I intend to be making not too long afterwards, I am not able to make it (unless someone is coming who is driving through my neighborhood).

Sorry fugu, my sister is only hosting dinner for her husbands side of the family, so my brother won't be coming out from STL. I thought he had more sense than to eat my sister's food, but was hoping that I was wrong. Too bad I wasn't.
