I know there have been a lot of Morrowind threads but not an inparticular help thread.
We just got this game and I was just wondering if there was such thing as a Healers Guild and if there was, where is it? I know someone talks about the College of Restoration, can you get to it?
Thank you -unicornwhisperer

No, there's no healer's guild, but the Tribunal Temple and Imperial Cult are close enough. The college of restoration is a skill that you have that aids you in casting healing and buff spells. Not a real college.

Mage's Guild basically ecompesses all of the magical colleges. I suggest joining them.
Word of warning: if you plan on joining thieves guild and Fighter's guild, do the code book mission in the fighters guild before joining the thieves guild.

Word of advice: at the begining of the game it can be useful to walk every where you want to go instead of using fast transport methods (like slit strider). It is a good way to practice your skills and get them up to a decent level as well as becoming framilar with the game's enviromen.
Word of advice: except for what I mentioned about the fighter's guild mission that conflicts with thieves guild, join as many of the guild as you can. You don't have to do the missions and then everyone in that guild likes you a lot more (and does things for you for less money).
[EDIT: One last thing. Some charecters will damage your abilities (like strength or agility). In this case you can either "restore" those abilities via spells or portions, or go to te temple and make a donation at the tribunal altar and get an "A Resotration" (only A is Almsimiv but I can't spell it). If you do that last one, join the temple and the donation is only 5 gold, you don't have to do any of the quests or the pilgrimage]

Another good move is there's a tower in the mage's guild in Caldera with a lot of unguarded, expensive alchemy equipment. Good for newbies to make about 1300 fast.

My character is a Khajiti... however you spell that. Those cat characters. Although I would love to make a new character and use the faces this guy made even when I don't know how to plug them in the game.

1) unzip them to your Data Files folder 2) start the morrowind autoplay 3) click Data Files 4) Check the faces. 5) play
Morrowind is easy to add mods to. That is all you have to do.
Furthermore, don't listen to these people. Join EVERY GUILD except possibly the Imperial Legion. You MUST WEAR IMPERIAL MEDIUM ARMOR IF YOU JOIN. If you aren't trained in medium armor it is a real pain.
Also, using the mage guilds quest you are told to put a fake soul gem on a desk when someone leaves the desk. Steal everything there. You are looking at an easy 10000 or so.

I said it when that was posted the first time, but those models are beautiful!
The women especially. In the side by side comparisons, his models make the originals look hideous. He should be doing this stuff for a living, and making tons of money.

Rhedd does do that for a living -- he's a freelance graphic artist, and did work for Unreal Tournament 2003.
Anyway --
Rhedd's Heads actually have to be unzipped to the Morrowind directory for them to work. Personally, I use the NPC Replacer v3.5, 'cuz it includes the work of Rhedd and several other artists as well, plus it's a .esm file, so it loads last and eliminates conflicts. I don't have a link here, so just google it, that's how I found it, anyway. Something like xoom.com/zerothehero.
Also, it takes about 2 seconds to make a mod that add the "LegionUniform" script to a ring or something to make it so you just need to wear that to count as wearing a uniform. Additionally, there are several Heavy armors that count as a uniform, including 1 artifact piece. Or you can do what I did and just make all the "Imperial" armors (including newtscale and studded leather) have the "LegionUniform" script.
Of course, I found the legion missions kinda boring, so I don't join it anymore for that reason. Honestly, I usually only ever join the Mages' Guild an House Telvanni anymore, if I join anything. Excellent rewards there, for fairly interesting missions.
And I'm still anxiously awaiting the "Better Bodies Project" to be completed. Their forums are at http://www.psychodogstudios.net and links to screenies of progress can be found on the "progress update" thread.
And I just saw some screenies not too long ago where someone actually figured out a way to mod it so you can see through windows and have no doors on buildings. I don't remember the link offhand, and I'm now blocked from accessing the site where I know the link it, which is http://www.illuminatingdarkness.com under the forums, morrowind section, mods section, thread titles "Mods of note" in the nearly final posts of that thread as of a week ago.
And of course, I have Bloodmoon and Tribunal both as well. . . . .

I just beat the game for the first time a couple days ago. Redgaurd is the best charecter in my opinion.
Also, if you get frustrated when all of your items are to expensive to sell, it's really really easy to write a mod to fix that. But I think explaining how can ruin some of the fun at the begining, so you can just ask when you get frustrated.

Redguards are very good, but my current favorite race is Nords. 100% Resist Frost, 50% resist shock, high Willpower for the females -- give 'em Atronach sign and their magic resistaces are nothing short of amazing, and they make a darn good fighter/mage too. go pick up the Dragonbone Cuirass to add another 100% resist Fire and duel the head of the Mages' Guild to get an item with another 25% magicka absorption to make 75% with your Atronach sign, and . . . . Of course you can get that 75% absorption with any race, but I still just like the Nords.

You level based on your primary and secondary skills so if you want to level fast, use skills that go up quickly. Like Athletics.

Creeper is a scamp in Caldera. He has 5000 gold and will barter straight for the listed value. You can very very easily create a mod that will bump up his money to whatever you want. If you don't want to figure out how to do that I can send you one, or you can find one online.
KWSNI, Morrowind uses it's own plugin system, I would have no idea how to even begin troubleshooting that. Sorry.

I'm a seraphim (a mod we found) I just got up to level 2 and about to buy a pet. Has anyone figured out how to make the hang glider mod to work? http://thelys.free.fr Thanks for the links by the way.
No one knows how to change the music on the game?

I've never seen that mod before, does it not work the same way as the others? As for the music, I tend to mute their music and start up Windows Media Player before I play.

I got Morrowind the other day, but I've barely had time to look at it. Are there any races that you would strongly recommend *against* playing? I noticed that the lizard race has the ability to breathe under water. Does that come in handy very often?

Not really...best advice is not to get too set on your first character. Think about how you want to play and choose a race that suits your style. I like playing as Nords because I like to hack and slash and ignore that wussy magic stuff. However, any race can do just about anything, it's just that some don't start out doing some things very well.
(for the breathing in water thing - neat, but you can do the same thing with magic/potions so not critical)

Sometimes I wish I would have given this game more of a chance. I played it off and on for about a month, restarting a number of times but could never get into it. I really enjoy RPG but this one really stumped me. Finally made it a part of a big trade in towards my PS2. Maybe I should pick up a used copy and try again.

You should - Morrowind is quite slow starting out. Once you get into the meat of a few of the story lines, though, the pace picks up. You start levelling faster, the quests increase in difficulty, and you start finding some ph4t l3wt. My favorite thing.

I agree with tick, here. Don't get stuck woth your first character. It's fun to have enough diversity to do some things really well, and other things crappily.
I currently have three that I'm playing. One is a kajiit-kitty thing, who I use for running around and stealing stuff and generally getting into mischief. One is a breton who I'm actually following the storyline with, and one is a redguard that I use exclusively to kill anything he encounters. I'm thinking of making a lizardman who is an abolishionist.

Hmm...Well I may just have to give it another go. It will have to wait though...Curently playing Kingdom Hearts and have FFX waiting in the wing. Kingdom Hearts is mildly entertaining, an interesting mix between Zelda and Final Fantasy, kind of an action RPG that so far has been pretty linear. But it's easy on the brain. I think that is why Morrowwind was difficult to get into for me, Two kids and a wife at homemake it difficult to sit down and really invest anytime into an intense RPG.

I'm a bit stuck on a low level Fighter's Guild quest--the one mentioned above, about the code book. How can I get that code book? I've bribed the woman in the thieves guild until she absolutely loves me, but she still won't give it to me. I don't want to kill her, and when I try to pick her pockets, all she's got on her is a spoon. Any suggestions?

You're going to have to kill her. My suggestion is that you provoke her and get her to attack you first. If that doesn't work, steal a cup from behind her (or something of almost no value) and she'll attack you. Then you killing her is self defense. Warning: if you take option 2, if you ever talk to a gaurd again they will arrest you and take all your stolen stuff. I suggest getting rid of everything you own (after this epsidoe is over) except however much your bounty is and then talking to a gaurd. Just pay him your bounty and go back to pik up your stuff.

huh, i'm pretty sure bill didn't kill her. i wonder how he got it...
oh, and pickpocket will show you only some of what a given person has, based on their security, iirc.
oh well, kill her it is. but don't kill any of the native tribespeople. that will mess your game up beyond repain in the future. just ask prolixshore.

Celia can tell you that I'm a big fan of just walking around the incredibly cool enviroment and just slaughtering all the people that aren't nice to me. She's right though, best to hold off until you've beaten the main quest until you do that (and even then, watch out, the side quests may be unfinishable because of someone you killed).

You can steal the book from her -- which is what Mercius suggests, if you ask him about it (and if you're in the Thieves Guild.) If her disposition is over 90 and you're in the Thieves Guild, too, she'll just give you the book when you ask about it.

I'd probably be a Morrowind addict, except my computer chokes on the game in weird ways. For instance, it won't let me use enchanted weapons. Whatever special effect that goes along with the enchantments makes my graphics card have a nervous breakdown. So...

Well, I'm in the Thieves Guild (and am far enough along in it that I'm making decent money from some of the quests), and her disposition toward me is in the high 90s, but she still won't give me the book. All she does is tell me the skinny on it. Frustrating. The game is fully patched, so it isn't just that a bug from an early version or something. I don't really want to kill her. My character is more on the thieving end of things, and if things go the way they look like they will, I'll be choosing the side of the Thieves Guild when they go to war with the Cammona Tog (or whatever it's called).

If you're confident that you're going to oppose the Tong, don't even bother with the quests in Balmora; there are other quests you can do to get a high enough rank that Mercius will give you quests, and you can get quests from him or people suggested by him for most of the game thereafter.

Now that's fascinating. That's kind of the track I was thinking of pursuing, actually. I'm still in the early stages--my character is verging on 8th level--but I was thinking that I wanted to rise as high as possible in both of those organizations. Maybe the Mage's Guild too; I haven't quite decided.
So have you guys played the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansion packs? I've got both of them, but it'll be a long time before my character is high enough level for them to come into play.

one of them changes the journal so you can actually keep track of what quests you have open. even if you aren't going into that higher level area yet, it's still a nice improvement on the regular game.
and, tom, i knew we didn't kill her! it's been like 18 months since bill played those missions, i should probably not be giving advice on them

What everyone needs is Boots of Blinding Speed.
I work with the level designer who created them, and they're the most hilarious joke I've ever seen in an RPG

Another item that you want to get, that I've found EXTREMELY useful, is the Steel Dagger of Heaven. This item allows you to fly for 30 seconds, and makes getting across Morrowind MUCH easier.

Hey, Geoff, I've got an idea for a game, but I can't imagine that I'll ever have an opportunity to capitalize on it. Want it?

That does sound useful. Where do you find it.
I've been wanting to enchant some boots so that they constantly replinish my character's fatigue (I hate that your vigor is referred to as "fatigue". Does that bother anybody else?), as suggested by somebody above (or maybe in another thread, I can't remember), but at the moment I'm too low level to do it myself, and when I've looked into it in various enchanter's shops, I haven't seen an effect like that listed as a possibility.

Scott, there's a trader who offers them to you in exchange for escorting her to some tiny little middle of nowhere village. I can't remember where I bumped into her; it was my first night playing the game, and it wasn't too long after that that I abandoned that character and created a new one.

That quest took too long for my severly ADD wood-elf.
I'm not sure where I picked up the Steel Blade of Heaven-- but I think in one of the offshoots of the main quest.
