No, this isn't a pirate comparison thread.

The story is out that Rowan Atkinson has been contracted to play a part in the next Harry Potter film, and one radio report listed that part as Voldemort.

This news brief, about half way down, shows Variety confirming the hiring of Rowan Atkins.

Could he play Voldemort?

Admiteddly, Mr. Bean is more comical than Evil.
Yet Black Adder had some definately Sophisticated Evil in him.

I think it would work.

Yeah, he's talented, but I won't be able to watch him do anything *evil* without spewing lemonade all over the movie seat in front of me. Plus, he's pretty much nothing at all like the Voldemort incarnation we saw in the first movie, so it's pretty unlikely that that would be his role.

My guess, without thinking too deeply into the characters in the fourth book, would be Ludo Bagman. He's got that pomposity thing down pat, and his face and demeanor lend themselves perfectly to a character who's innocence is up in the air like that.

Then there's Professor Moody... [Smile] I think Bagman is too small a role for him.

My bet is on Moody or Voldemort. I think he would be amazing in either of them. I could be extremely scared by a well done Rowan Atkinson as Voldemort....

I'd hafta go with Moody or Bagman.

I don't think I could be afraid of Voldemort if he was played by the same guy as Mr. Bean. I'd be giggling the whole time.

sorry to burst the collective bubble.

I always thought Moody was Scottish (Oh no you don't, laddie!). So of course the first oldish Scottish man I think of as playing Moody is the dead shexshy Sean Connery. I think he could pull it off rather well.

I hope Atkinson isn't Moody, either, 'cause I always pictured Moody older, much older, and craggy and curmudgeonly. And not "funny," per se. At least with Bagman Atkinson would be able to flaunt a little of his natural humor.

edit: ha, or maybe i should read the whole article before acting like i know what it said! [Laugh] me

Maybe Paul Ruebens will be out of prison long enough to play Voldemort. Anyone see him in the original "Buffy" movie? I like it but never saw the show.

I always thought Anthony Hopkins would make a great Moody. I remember he played the fugitive from Great Expectations (any of you Dickensian elite can feel free to hop in and fill in the name), not to mention the father from Legends of the Fall, and both roles would contribute nicely to Moody.

Edit: also The Bounty.

Book: Magwitch from Great Expectations, if my memory serves me.

And this is a little off topic, but are the Harry Potter books really that great? I haven't read any yet, and I'm wondering if I should start or not.
