It was high up people in Cheney's office, and they're specifically revealing their names to pressure them into implicating any higher-ups who might have been involved. I have my suspicions as to who ordered it.

Nothing will happen. All the right people will have deniability and some minor functionaries will take the hit and will be shuffled off to work for lobbying firms.
I'm still waiting to see what turns up with the Democrat's files being fingered.

Having made that snarky post, I will concede that the Bush administration seems to get away with an awful lot. We'll see if the American people will stand for that in November. If what my history teacher told me is true, he'll probably be re-elected because the economy is recovering. Whoever wins, I sure hope he forces Congress to be a tad more responsible with our money. And it would be nice if the administration stops blowing CIA agents' cover.

Dag, you have to concede that Republicans at the national level get away with a LOT more crap -- like, say, trading arms for hostages and exposing CIA operatives -- than, say, Clinton did. I mean, we're talking about a man whose ill-timed haircut made national news for a month; if Bush were to shut down an airport for a haircut, we'd have Republicans out there arguing that it was necessary for national security and a brave, forward-thinking move that yet again demonstrates how independent he is of the polls. Focusing on the haircut thing, which is irrelevant to "corruption" and only involved public outcry, not criminal investigation, is a cheap rhetorical trick.

I may have, admittedly. Last I heard -- though this was several months ago at the earliest -- he was intent on keeping Congress from having their own investigation into the matter. While I'm sure he's going to lose the fight, or maybe already has, the fact remains that Bush didn't want Congress to investigate September 11. Why not?

Don't know. Maybe national security, maybe fear of being embarassed for another intelligence screw up. Probably some of each, with the first being made more important due to the second.
But that's a far cry from saying Republicans are never screwed for being corrupt.

Oh, you're absolutely right, Dagonee. Like when the White House leaked that Wilson's wife was a CIA agent to punish Ambassador Wilson for exposing one of the administration's lies -- the Republicans certainly got screwed on that one, ha ha! I loved watching Karl Rove led away with handcuffs on.

With the media fragmenting into biased spheres of influence, its hard to imagine any group getting away with anything major. Perhaps one sphere of listeners/viewers/readers doesn't pay attention to the other sphere, but its out there.

On the national level, about 30 years ago. Watergate. Nixon resigns. Senior staff doing prison time. Fond memories...
On the state level, here in Illinois, it's going on right now. The ex-governor was just indicted on multiple serious counts, following a federal investigation that revealed incredible (even for Illinois) levels of corruption.
The Daley administration (Democrat) in Chicago seems a little better insulated, with staffers willing to fall on their swords when stuff hits the fan, but there's some federal investigation going on there, too.
