PSI Teleport and I have been throwing around the idea of having a little get-together for the jatraqueros from the burning hot desert.
Provided slacker has no objections, we could have it at our house (we are in Chandler, right by the 101). Our house isn't huge and we don't have any cool water slides or anything, but we have 2 cute and lovable kitties (that can be locked up in kitty jail if need be), a big screen tv and LOTR movies, are LAN-party capable, and slacker is an awesome grill-master.
I was thinking of maybe a Fri afternoon-evening or a Saturday get-together. So, are there any takers?

Sounds cool. I just need enough notice to get the day off work. I work evenings. I would definitely be there.

I'd love to come. Do you suppose that you could come pick me up, though? I don't have a car. I'm going back home this weekend and next (Spring break!!), but perhaps we can have a get-together at the end of March?

If you come here Thanksgiving weekend, we can have a special get-together just for you, Moose!

I'm pretty sure we'll be in Prescott for Thanksgiving, lusti. Don't yet know what our schedule will be like, so getting away for a day or a part thereof may or may not be able to happen. We'll update as the time approacheth.

Any of you Arizonans in need of a Spanish teaching job?(Paradise Valley) My dad's school is looking, and i thught of this hotbed of smarty-pantses.
Papa Moose, my folks have a home in Prescott. They bought it about two years before the real estate boom. They plan to retire there.

PS Go to the McDowell Music Festival in Scottsdale in April. Great bands there, including the one and only Donna the Buffalo. It is out at the polo grounds.

Well, depending upon the weekend, count me in.
I'm gone one weekend in march and out of town one the first weekend of April. Other than those, I'm pretty much good to go.
Seeing as I live pretty much directly north of Chandler, and will be taking the 101 pretty much past ASU to get there, a Shigosei stop would be pretty much on the way.
So, will we do a sort of pot-luck finger foods for this, just to keep Ludosti from having to cook too much (I don't recall Slacker having bragged about his cooking ability).
I don't know how mobile my computer will be, but that's pretty minor all in all.

Yay!! I'm glad that there are people that actually want to do this - and actually quite a few at that!
I've already got plans for the last Saturday of March...
Which weekend in March are you going to be gone, Feyd (I wish for the life of me that I could remember your name, since I've met you and everything, you'll have to remind me when we get together )?
What are people's thoughts about next Saturday, or April 10th?
Papa Moose - do please let me know as Thanksgiving weekend gets closer! I'd love to get to meet you (and your adorable little boys and the lovely Squirrel)!

Well, IF I'm out of town, it will be next weekend. But it looks as if (about 75% chance) that I will NOT be out of town, so next weekend might actually work out. I'm not sure when I'll know for certain, but it'll likley be by the end of this weekend (My cousin is flying into Tucson for a week, and next weekend was my turn in the PR department, since we share a good deal of tastes in science and such).

Man, the things I miss when I'm sleeping the days away. I'll have to ask for next saturday off or whenever in April, but I need to know soon, otherwise it'll be too late for me to ask.

So what are everyone's thoughts about next Saturday (the 20th)?
Time-wise, I was thinking of starting at maybe 3 or 4pm (slacker works nights, so he would be awake by then, but will have to go away to work a little after 7pm)...

I'll go with what the group picks, but please include in your decision-making that it will take Jes and me a couple hours to get back home. I'm hoping I can get a babysitter to come HERE rather than take kids to someone else's house, so that their bedtime won't be too much of a problem.

Oh yeah, and Goat suggested we call it an AZ Bunching in another thread which amused me. But I do think we need to pick a different name for it than Shinda.

Your commute (combined with slacker's work schedule) are why I want to have it in the late afternoon. There's time for people to get some stuff done on their Saturday, come play with other Jatraqueros and have some dinner/munchies, and time to do other things that night should they so desire.

Would it be possible to do it a little earlier in the afternoon? If not I'll ask for the day off. I start work at 6:00 PM. If I can't get the day off, could somebody give me a ride to work? I work at the Scottsdale 6 drive in at Mckellips and Hayden roads.

Darrell - I don't think it'd be possible to do it much earlier than 3pm (slacker works the night shift and works both Friday and Saturday nights, so he'd end up on missing out on some of his sleep). We can see if someone would be able to drive you out to work if you end up needing to work.
PSI - You are right - I think slacker's biggest interest (besides me ) is computers.

Thanks ludosti. I'm going to ask for day off. I'll put in the request tonight. I just hope nobody calls in sick next Saturday.
MMMM! Pork chops. Will this be a potluck? If so, what should I bring?
Feyd, since you're coming by this way on your way to the gathering, could I get a ride? If you still have my email address, then let me know by email. Email address is in my profile in case you lost it during the move.

So, next Saturday is good for everybody, so far, right? (we haven't heard from Shigosei or peterh - hopefully they'll check in later this afternoon - and Feyd won't know for sure until this weekend)
Yes, I think a potluck would be a good way to go. PSI has volunteered to bring some pork chops. We've got burgers and fixings (and probably some green salad and fruit - unless someone else wants to provide that). I always have basic drinks (water, lemonade, milk, juice), but if people want something else, they should probably bring it (my only request is no alcohol, please). What else do you think would be good?

I got dibbs on caffeine requirements. And I'll probably end up bringing some stuff I see in the store that tickles my fancy.

I'm a fan of sour cream and onion chips! But I also like various tortilla chips (ooh chips and salsa are always good).

So far I've got three containers of salsa. One each of mild, medium, and hot. How much should I get? PSI, If I bring the cream cheese and salsa, will you make the dip?
Sorry, but the salsa is store bought, not made frm scratch by me. My cooking skills aren't that advanced.
We've not had much luck picking weekends when everyone's around.
Maybe Jes and I can meet you at the airport for coffee or something before we go into Tucson. Are you going to be really tired?

No, I probably won't be too tired to have coffee with you. If you're willing to pay the high airport prices, I'd love to meet you.
I'll check my itinerary once hotmail comes back so I can let you know exactly when I'll be at the airport. Assuming I'm on time...

OK, I've got tortilla chips and sour cream & onion. I'll probably make another run to the store the day before, or the morning of the gathering. Get your chip preferences in now. What about dips? I've got salsa. Anything else you all want me to bring like french onion dip?

You know what I can't believe? The PacNW is also having a get-together. So both places I live are having gatherings on the same day and I can't go to either one!

Hey, Jes said we could have coffee with you when you get in. What's your name, so I don't have to hold up a big sign that says "Hey you".
Isn't there a little coffee place right outside of security?
edit: Oh man. You know your day has sucked when you realize you made the same flat joke twice in a row.
Please, Shigosei, don't judge me by how I'm acting today. Give me until tomorrow and I'll be back to pretending to be all happy and funny, but with more pinache, and I'll be refreshed so it should be more convincing.

Hey, be patient. My boss was feeding me steak and wine. He's a few ranks higher on my boss list now.
I will TENTITAVELY say I will be there. The only reason I would not be there is if my cousin does end up in Tucson (in all fairness, that has priority and it was organized first). But, he's asking about what other time of year would be good to show up, so I honestly think that will fall through and I'll be at the... what was it, a Bunching?
Oh, and since I'm not 100% certain, I'll volunteer to bring a fingerfoods (plus, I mentioned it earlier). Does anyone have objects to Sausage Balls (Sausage, cheese, and bread). If so, tell me and I'll scrounge up something else.
Still don't know about my computer, but I'll worry about getting me there first.
