A couplet is a set of two poetic lines. They have the same rhythm, and the same rhyme at the end. The subject is up to you, but here are the awards I will be giving out. They all have to do with the Greek Gods and/or Warcraft races (a decision made while driving home last night). These are the awards:
The Dionysus/Pandaren Award: Only a person who was drunk would have thought up a panda who fights with beer - that's only logical. This award is for the funniest couplet.
The Ares/Kobold Award: Ares is a cowardly fighting god, and I thought kobolds would suit him nicely as a species. This award is for the worst couplet.
The Aphrodite/Sorceress Award: Both the goddess of love and the sorceresses of Warcraft use spells to entrance and slow down their targets. This award is for the most romantic couplet.
The Athene/Night Elf Award: Athene was the goddess of calculated warfare, and she appreciated the natural world. The Night elves use her owls, her trees, and her strategies to be one of the more powerful races in Warcraft. This award is for the couplet which is crafted the best.
The Zeus Award: Oddly enough, the offspring of the Dionysus/Pandaren, this award is for the best poem about ADULTERY, political or otherwise. Sorry, there was no way I couldn't offer this
This contest is open from when I post this thread until 8 AM, EST on Saturday the first of August. Happy writing!

You may fade from the light of the sun and the moon and the stars in their black-velvet sea, And the earth be bereft of your lyrics and tune, but your music lives always in me.

I tip-toed to surprise my lover, Surprise! I caught her with my brother!

Between those two, I should be eligible for any one of the awards.

I mean only to encourage y'all, I don't want to play, but I'm hoping for more than just nine couplets in one day.

Greek gods did not inspire me to rhyme the lone word thread. So I shot Fred once in the head where he bled red til dead.

My first award, the Aphrodite/Sorceress award, goes to KarlEd, for his first couplet entered onto this post.
You may fade from the light of the sun and the moon and the stars in their black-velvet sea, And the earth be bereft of your lyrics and tune, but your music lives always in me.
Well done! The oracle predicts you will win many hearts with such writing!

The third award, the Ares/Kobold award, goes to asQmh, for his simple yet infuriating rhyme. AsQmh, I will keep your advice in mind, if no one gets to make that post first. Here is the couplet:
I think we should have a limerick thread, 'cause all I can think of to rhyme here is "bread."
The oracle believes that such a small effort shows that there is some thought in it, and that more effort can yield even better poetry. Well Done!

The fourth award, the Zeus award, goes to Zalmoxis, having described any of the possible situations that Zeus, the most powerful and most adulterous Greek god, might be caught by his mortal love's husband.
When I rose and went to partake of my love's dewy light, I glimpsed a bright, hairy bum running off into the night.
Well done! The oracle believes that you will have better luck with love since you are able to write about its hardships.

The fifth and final award, the Dionysus/Pandaren award, is probably the toughest to give because everyone on this post has a great sense of humor. But the impossible must be done, so...
It's a tie, between Bob_Scopatz and Alucard... Bob gets the award for trying to make me look like a flatworm, and Alucard gets the award for being such a die-hard WarIII fan.
Alucard's couplet: Heros and Valor, Valor of Heroes, Let's kill some Orcs, and go out for Gyros.
Well done, you two! The oracle predicts that Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, and Robin Williams had better watch out!

Well done, all of you! Thank you for writing in, and for making my first topic a grand success. I couldn't have done it without you!

With the love life of Eddie Murphy and his choice of erm...women, and the lifestyle Robin Williams leads, I will stick with Steve Martin.
But hey, if those 3 want to relive The Jerk, get high on paint fumes shouting "Nanoo Nanoo" and go pick up transvestite hookers, I'm in. Just renew my Bond Card and give me that phone call!
On second thought, cancel. I'm sticking with Hatrack!

Where is my love, when I long to go laughing and frolicking, through the blowing breeze Hurry love, hurry to me, my skin, my mouth, my heart, await your wakeful squeeze
I smell a reincarntation of the limmerick threads, I know you hear me knockin' and I'm bringing Ned from Nantucket with me...
-> -> (the transformation from mild-mannered druggist to evil mad scientist/dirty limmerick author is complete!)

I think there should be a thread for couplets alone For discussion of topics as from a throne
