I was riding my scooter down by my school and something caught my eye. A girl was sitting next to a bus stop wearing an Endercon tshirt! I recognized her after taking a better look. It was Miro.

I stopped and said hi. It was cool cuz I had never randomly run into a hatracker before.

Anyway, that's it.

Actually, all of Northern Virginia, DC and a small piece of West Virginia belong to me.

And Maryland belongs to Karl Ed, so don't ask.

DawnMaria: I am sending a gazillion cicadas to Woodbridge for that very purpose.

They should arrive within a week.

You can hear them in Reston. Very neat sounding. I haven't seen too many though.

We have a friend in Arlington who said they're really bad in her neighborhood.

You know they've been declare a hazard to children due to the number of ER visits that have been caused by children trying to either run from them or kill them in inventive* ways.

*Such as placing one, by hand, under the wheel of a moving car, baseball bats, etc.

The house of a former next door neighbor, who now lives a few miles away, is literally covered, top to bottom, in cicadas. I, on the other hand, haven't seen a single one in my neighborhood.

Dawnmaria,

Whereabouts in Woodbridge are you? I grew up in Lake Ridge, and moved out toward Manassas right before HS (~12 years ago). Not there anymore though. It's a shame, as there seem to be a lot of us in the DC area.

Happy Camper,
I live close to Woodbridge Senior High. I can watch their crew practice rowing from my back deck. Man they can yell! I hope to be moving down to Stafford within the next year. We're building a house with a lot more room. I have no idea where we'll put a baby in November in this place!

Wow, that's close to where I was. I was a little farther north, lived right by the Lake Ridge Community Swim Club. WSHS would have been my base school had I been in that house during High School (I say base school because I went to TJ). Crazy.

Same question went through my head, Raia. [Smile] Well, first it was, "Really? Was Cary Elwes as chubby in real life as his character looked in Ella Enchanted?" and then I realized I wasn't sure if he was serious.

Last saturday when I emerged from our house those things had just emerged from wherever it is they emerge and literally covered up all of our plants...they had this fresh/slimy look to them that indicated they had just hatched.

I live in McLean, except when I'm down in Charlottesville for school. Two more years left of that.

The cicadas are loud here - it sounds like Star Trek TOS cheesy phaser effects.
