Rabbit, we do not sell cocaine. Instead, we have countless crystal meth labs hidden in the hills of PA. Wal-Mart actually has to limit the sale of some of the supplies that meth labs use (coffee filters, cold medicine etc...) and have stopped selling these items in large quantities after dark.
Anyway, the only way gambling is going to pay my property taxes is if I hit "7,7,7" on a slot machine.

I would love it if all government revenue was from cocaine rather than taxes. No one forces you to gamble (or take drugs), and if you ruin your life it is your own damn fault. Less taxes are a good thing.

What else is there to say? No one is going to argue that gambling is a wise use of money. Either you believe it is ok to waste money, or you do not. As with all vices, you cannot get rid of it, you can only decide whether it is the government or the black market who receives the profits.
The KY lottery has been running ads that says everyone wins when you play it, because apparently they give the money to education. We still have taxes, so obviously we are not winning enough.

I don't see the comparison between drug use and gambling. And if you do want to make a connection, then you have to include eating too much, drinking caffeine, staying up late, etc...all things that can potentially be harmful if done in an overabundence. Explain to me why it is a bad idea to put slot machines up and use the profits as a tax break. And explain why this conjures up comparisons to selling drugs and using that money as a tax break.

They are analogous because both are actions that are widely regarded as harmful and immoral. Furthermore, an "addiction" paradigm has been used to describe compulsive gambling. All the actions you listed also work as comparisons, but not as well because less people believe they are wrong and/or see the harm.
I am guessing here, but the bad idea might be that the state is supporting something one believes to be immoral. Same as government funded abortions.

As far as the gambling goes, New Mexico begin allowing Indian Casino Gambling, the lottery, and racetrack gambling several years ago. They said that a certain portion would be earmarked for education and would increase the dollars in education and all of our test scores. A year or two later, they reduced the state education budget for education by the same amount of money it was receiving from the lottery and gambling. Education did not improve or profit from it at all. I know that Texas has done exactly the same thing and suspect that it happens this way in most states.
