what would it include?

I'm currently buying songs from iTunes to make a birthday CD for my little sister's 16th. She just discovered classic rock, and listens to my Zeppelin and Hendrix albums day and night.

So far, I've picked Deep Purple's "Hush," Zepp's "Kashmir" and Some obligatory Scorpions.

What else do I give to a budding guitar genius who missed the 70s? (And most of the 80s and 90s for that matter)

Don't forget CCR, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Dylan, David Bowie, Queen, Skynyrd, The Eagles, The Who, Rush, Bob Seger, Allman Brothers, and the Dead.

[edit: and Boston and Tom Petty]

Does KISS count as classic rock?

I went to one of their concerts when I was much younger -- don't remember their songs at the moment though.

Journey- Wheel in the Sky
Heart- Barracuda
Queen- Queen Killer
Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
Eagles - numerous choices, but I have a thing for Hotel California.
Billy Joel - um... lets go with Captain Jack
Elton John - Croc. Rock
Arrowsmith - forgot the title, but goes
"Sing with me, sing for the years.." - Thinking its Dream On.
The Who - numerous good choices
Kansas- Dust in the Wind/Carry On, O Wayward Son
David Bowie- Space Oddity

Just my preferences.

Edit- see what happens when you take too long to post?

Come On Eileen is another song that always gets me singing.

Add

Journey - Separate Ways
Boston - More Than A Feeling
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
CCR - Proud Mary
Pink Floyd - anything, really. I'd put on Fearless
Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks

I like Dag's suggestions of The Weight and Funky Dixieland.

Quintessential.

Yes - they're the originals.

Although Letters from Cleo was a surprisingly good remake, I wouldn't call it classic yet.

Dagonee
Edit: Funkie Dixieland is good also. There's a 12 minute live version I hear from time to time that is great at parties.

You've got to have some Queen on there Annie:

Pressure (then you get David Bowie TOO!!), or One Vision (is that's what it's called?) are favorites of mine.

David Bowie's China Girl is also a classic.
