I was reading the apple thread, where sndrake refers to himself as a serpent, and I wondered about how it is pronounced.
I always think "S.N. Drake". Does anyone actually pronounce it as one superheavy syllable?
Then there is Noemon, which I used to think "Nomahn" but have adopted the correct (according to him) pattern, which is "no way, man" with a Jamaican accent.
Unfortunately, I still think of Bokonon as having 3 short o's.

I like "pooka." I think of a fancy wild witchy horse every time I see it. I say it "pooh-kah," but I don't know if that is correct.
I'm an "S. N. Drake" guy, too.
I think I have "Noemon" all wrong.
"Kwea" reminds me of kiwi, which is a pleasant fruit. I blur that one all-together, too, and it comes out "kee-wee-uh."
My last name is pronounced just like "sassy," although it causes some confusion in real life. ("Sass?") Nothing like my maiden name of Helmbock, though. You don't want to be Dr. Hemlock if you can help it.

I was always curious about Noemon's as well. I was wondering if it was some sort of Latinish œ sound that I should know how to say. Maybe he should write it Noémon. ( )
Mine, for those of you who wonder, rhymes with miscellany.

If a name isn't a familiar sound pattern, I tend to pronounce it as if it were International Phonetic Alpabet. Therefore Kwea is "Kway-a". In my mind.

I'll bet just about everyone pronounces mine wrong. It's my actual first name, but it's pronounced with a long e...Meeegan.

Mine was originally pronounced PAY-pay Moh-OH-suh, but everyone would get it wrong, so I just go with the standard pronunciation now.

I think most people, regardless of the spelling, pronounce the name "Meg-ann" (as in rhyming with egg-pan), or May-gen (like you said, PSI). I've only met a very few people who pronounce it like I do. My parents tell me it's the Welsh way to pronounce it (we aren't of Welsh descent, but I was named after a Welsh nun. Go figure.), whereas the other ways are Irish.

Kwea is pronounced in a single silable, I think.
kway, almost....
It is a made up word used in a Dave Wolverton story, so I could be wrong. It means (roughly) emotional resonance...liek when you hear a song that reminds you of someone and you think of them so strongly that it is as if you were transported abck into that time again...only more so.
I just loved the concept.
That's how I always say it though...but about half the people at the picnic said it like you, Sara.
I always think of sndrake as one word....but I have a problem saying it that way to my wife when discussing it IRL....lol...

Pepek = Peh-Pehk .. each 'pe' in Pepek sounds like the beginning of 'Pepsi'.. I hate hearing it mis-pronounced.. Like, Pee-pehk or Pee-peek. *shivers*
With sndrake, I always just sorta made up a word to go with the 'Sn'.. I guess most oftenly I just think 'Snow Drake'
*shrugs*
One I would like explained is 'Saudade'.. I think of it as sorta sounding like persuaded..

Icarus: I do that too! I have no idea why I leave the "e" off. It's like I forget and make it french at the end or something.

See, whenever I can't think of an automatic English pronunciation for something, I Spanishi-ze it. Thus:
Mayday Des EE ax
and
A vah dah roo
I also pronounce Risuena with an ñ, even though I was suprised today to realize there is not one there.

I've always thought that sndrake was sindrake.
Annie's assertion that her name rhymes with miscellany will forever make me see her name as Missle Annie.
For those that have problems with punwit just think pundit. I would not want anyone to impugn my wit.

I haven't really decided how to pronounce mine, haha... there's so much disagreement over it! Generally I say "RAH-yah," with the tall "A," but I've heard most people say "RAY-ah," so I don't know anymore. I personally like RAH-yah better, but that's just me, I guess!

Saudade I prounounce correctly because Porter speaks Portuguese. It is such a great word that _I_ use it. Sowl-dah-jee
I pronounce Dagonee as he said it should be.
Sndrake to me is sn-drake. Two syllables, but it isn't something I would feel comfortable saying "out loud".

saudade apparently wants her name pronounced in the Brazilian way (sowdajee), but I always pronounce it the Portuguese fashion (with the -deh at the end).

I don't even know with mine. Whatever you'd prefer. I got it from a book of greek mythology with an obvious error.

I don't get this "maiden name" business. "Sasse" isn't your husband's last name unless I can't read.
Anyway, it doesn't matter, I'd just like you to know that "I am, to say the least, perplexed," and also that if you don't recognize that quote, you desperately need to watch The Way of the Gun.
